Quiet Hob For 20 Gallon?

Hello all, I have a penguin 100 bio wheel and I am totally ready to give up on it. Its SO loud, or just making odd noises for no apparent reason. I check inside frequently and the space where the propeller is housed is always clear so I have no idea what's wrong with it. Any of you guys know any fairly cheap quiet HOB filter that I can replace it with? Appreciate any advise.

This is one of my favorites, I don’t have it, but it has great reviews, and it’s WISPER!

My husband complains about our 2 Aquaclears, I like the falling water. But just got an Aqueon Quiet flow? SO quiet. Did re-rig the inside w extra sponge. It's just a 10 but working fine it seems. Lifetime guarantee it says? Guessing similar to Tetra as they look alike.

Aqueon quietflow 30, or aquaclear 50

Apparently Aqueon quietflow seems like a good choice!

I use acquaclears on all my tanks and they are dead silent. I sometimes need to check to see whether they are on.

My 2x Aquaclear 30's are quiet and hold a lot of media.

My vote is an AC30 or AC50.

Marineland penguin 200b would be the best those Aquaclear filters doesn't restart if you have a power loss.

And the trick to a quiet filter is a higher water level.

thanks for all the ideas! the issue isn't with splashing water at all though. it the impeller constantly rattling and I can't seem to stop it. vaseline is a pretty temporary fix, it gets loud after only a few hours. Ill look at all of these

One thing I like about the Aquaclear over the Aqueon is you can raise or lower the flow. At least on my Aqueon 10 I can't.

Jimmie93 , all 4 of my Aquaclears restart without issue when I unplug them.

On my 75g, I routinely unplug my AC110 when I feed.

A few minutes later, I plug it back in and it starts instantly

I have experimented with getting the Aquaclears to restart after a power outage. The water has to be down over 4 inches to start seeing a no start issue. I can't stand letting my tanks get that low because the waterfall is way too loud.

I have had some always restart and 1 maybe 2? (one in the past?) that always stop and need a time out first before coming back for me. I bought another 30 for another tank which I am holding off on and then swapped it. Thank goodness. Now the Pausing filter is a backup.

I had one I had to use a pencil to restart. I finally tore it down and had sand on the impeller shaft.

You probably have a damaged propeller sand and rock particles get in and break parts of the magnet making it go off track. But you can actually new a propeller instead of replacing the whole filter sometimes it is cheaper depending on the model.

Big fan of the Fuval C series. I would defiantly check them out.

Vaseline is the wrong thing to use. Petroleum products damage seals and are not good for fish. You need to use 100% silicon lube. Remember to do the pins on the wheels as well. I do this once a month.
