65 Gallon Tank Quicker water changes?

Just wondered if there are any quicker ways to do a water change on a 65 gallon tank. All I have at the moment is a siphon and 2 x 12l buckets and water changes especially large ones take a looong time!

 

If you have a floor drain, you could directly siphon out there. Other than that, you could use a python. It is automatic but in fact slower than siphon.

 

Or a window near by to put the end of the siphon out of?

A 65 gallon tank will need ( let me think) 30 odd gallons/113 litres give or take depending on your choice and stocking.
That can easily be pushed around in a 200 litre wheelie bin / rubbish bin on wheels if the floor between a tap and the tank is flat?

If you can get a hose to a drain do so , but get a 20mm / 3/4 inch hose to remove faster. The toilet may work even if you you have to pump water out?
Using a rubbish bin is a good way to temperature match all the water . A mark on the side of the bin at 120 litres or whatever will help with the conditioner .

Pumping the water out of the bin will require a large submersible POND pump and 20 mm/ 2/3 inch hose. These 12 volt pumps are not expensive compared to other submersible pumps.

Fittings and taps are optional.



The last photo shows a length of pipe that has small holes drilled in it . It’s the right length to stop siphoning at 42% of the height of most of my tanks.

Python is by far the easiest way grab one on Amazon
