Questions on feeding my new Featherfin Catfish

I just got my new Featherfin Catfish yesterday and he is 6 inches or so long. The previous owner has told me she fed him the pellets as well but only fed him every second day (mind you her tank was full of snails so he probably snacked on them as well) and everywhere I look it says he should be fed daily. One site says once a day another says every morning and every night. So my questions to you guys are:

How often should I feed him?
How many times a day should I feed him?
And how many pellets do I give him?

This would be greatly appreciated!

I have no idea what catfish that is but...

I would prob feed every other day. some kind of sinking waffers. or my catfish love wardleys shrimp pellets. he might even like some zucchini. even sprinkling flakes along the ground will work.

you should drop one waffer next to him and watch and see if he eats it. the waffers a very messy if left in to long. so you might have to take it away form him after 30min or so.

He's been eating the same shrimp pellets since he was a baby so I don't want to change it, I may buy the wafers as an occasional treat. He is a also known as a featherfin squeaker, or a featherfin synodontis. Here is a picture of him:

hes cute. throw some blood worms on the ground he will love those.

another thing that catfish might be a lil big for a 30g. a fish that can get to 8in really need a 48in tank.

If you can, ask the previous owner about how many pellets to feed. Barring that, feeding a little at a time and watching would probably be the best way to go. Also, if he's with other fish he will eat their leftovers. If he's healthy, I wouldn't mess with a successful routine. good luck.

Thanks! The owner used to feed him every second day. The only thing I'm worried about is right now he's alone in the tank and there are no snails in the tank for him to eat like his old tank.

I'm not positive they eat snails are you? loaches are the real snail eaters.

you can go to a local pet store and buy some plants there are usually snails on those. but I think feeding the stuff I listed should be fine.

I only feed mine a couple times a week. They love their shrimp pellets but each have their own preference as to which brand they like lol. Mine are all 6" maybe a bit bigger and I feed them a few pinches of pellets... a lot of pellets. They've also snacked on some smaller fish. -.- Also other poster is correct... the tank really is too small for him. You'll probably want to feed him sparingly since he'll have quite a large bioload in the tank.

I'm aware of the tank size thank you guys. As I have posted above, I am getting him a new bigger tank. I also believe a 30 gallon by himself for the time being is much better than the over-stocked 20 gallon he was kept in for years.

Oops I didn't see you were getting him a larger tank. Yes that is of course much better than a 20 gallon, I'm really surprised he made it in such a small tank being overstocked and all.

I am as well. He's quite enjoying the 30 gallon right now, but I found some amazing deals on some 55 gallon tanks that I'm looking into. $60 isn't too shabby lol.
