Questions About Ro/di??

HI there! My apologies, I haven't been active for nearly one year. Last time I posted, it was to ask about my stocking plan for an upcoming saltwater biocube. It's been almost 11 months since, and I still haven't bought anything. I'm taking baby steps of baby steps.

Now, I've been skimming around the internet for RO/DI systems, and I found RO/DI units for the home (Filter your own tap and I heard it can make your water softer, I live in Calgary) So I'm wondering if instead of just buying an aquarium RO/DI unit, I could buy the home RO/DI unit and use that for my drinking water because I've been meaning to buy one anyways AND my fish tank.

Yes? No? Here's the link if you're interested in taking a look.

Thank you!

EDIT: My bad! I just realized I wrote drinking water, I meant to say shower water.

If you really want to drink RODI water, go for it (tastes a little gross IMO) but you'll still need something similar to treat your tap water before water changes and top offs

If it takes you to 0 TDS then it should work but I don't know about drinking it. De-mineralized water isn't the best thing for people since you actually need some minerals that are in tap water to get the full benefit of drinking water. That is a pricey unit though. You can get a 4 stage 50gpd unit for aquariums here in the US starting at $60USD.

Unfortunately I'm in Canada so things are a bit on the pricey side. However, I do have to a question- which is better? 3, 4, or 5 stage? I see all these stages and get very mixed opinions.

The more stages the better the filtration. I would invest in a TDS meter and find out what the TDS of your local tap water is. If it's under 100 then 3 to 4 stage should be fine. If it's more then I would go with more stages of filtration.
