There's a lever on that downtube with a lever with slots on it.

Is that to control flow? I'm guessing if you have the slots in the blocked position it would pull harder from the bottom, open slots would pull from the bottom and the middle.

Should I have the slots open or blocked. I have a 40 gal tall.

I THINK its to draw water from more than one place, I don't remember exactly what they say its purpose is, but it should't effect flow.
Its still pulling the same water from the same tank with the same suction so flow should not be affected.

Thank you, I'm still cycling the tank so this is still all new to me. It's been driving me crazy lol...sometimes I leave the slots open, sometimes closed...at some point I will try to email the company or see if they have any info on their website. I will post it here if I get an answer, just in case anyone else is wondering as well.

It is designed so that you can pull water from the bottom of your tank or pull water part way up the water column. Its actually a nice feature I wish more filters came with a gate so you could easily change what portion of the water column you were filtering.

Cheers,

Thank you Sticks...I'm probably going to run it with it open...I like the idea of pulling it from high and low.
