ok so I got some aquatic plants.. 3 of them I grew... and 3 is like assorted plants... they look nice and I researched that they don't need that much co2 ... (I'm not rich so I don't have a co2 system.) I'm just asking if what kind of substrate I should put for my plants, because people say its better.... is sand good? I already thought of something were I put my sand on and plants. where I don't need to mix it with my gravel.... cuz I know sand -_- is hard to clean... so thanks

I have pool filter sand and is not hard to clean and I had gravel and found that was harder to clean. I use Seahum Florish Excel and API root tabs in my tank and my plants seem to love it.

does that Seahum and API root tabs require a CO2 system? or its just a thing that u put in aquarium that won't harm my fish?

It does not require a CO2 system and you could just use the tabs they go in the substrate or excel which you dose according to the bottle its self.

Seachem Excel is a liquid carbon source. It's not really CO2 but a substitute is how I look at it. Plants have to break it down to use it. It's great for 55 gallon or less.

API Root tabs is a fertlizer tab that you insert into the substrate near root feeders like Swords, Crypts and Vals. I use Flourish Root tabs. These you insert every 3 +/- months or so. API is monthly.

A planted tank all starts with the light. Moderate to highlighting you start to get into CO2 and fertlizers. With highlight tanks CO2 and fertlizers are a must or You will grow algae instead of your plants.

What size tank and what is your lighting? If you have standard flourcent lighting then you should be fine for low light plants with sand and root tabs. Fish poop and fish food is usually enough to provide nutrients in low light setups but it doesn't hurt to dose once a week a balanced fertlizer like Flourish Comprehensive.

I use just fine gravel and I don't vac due to plants or you will disturb the roots. I just hover above the substrate once in awhile to pickup debris.

Good luck!
