Question For Gourami Experts

My stocking list for my new 50 gallon tank has changed a multiple times due to incompatibilities, Mid-Bottom level will be 3 Rams, 6 Zebra Loaches, and a tetra school.

I originally wanted a 3 paradise fish, a ctenapoma, 3 blue gourami, 3 pearl gourami for my top level swimmers.Obviously that would not work.

Most recent iteration top level was going to stock 2 festivums, 3 pearl gourami, and 1 ctenapoma. But I'm realizing there is a lot of inconsistent info on the festivums, Its not worth the risk.

Honey and pearl gouramis are said to be very peaceful. Can I mix the two as long as I don't have more than one male pearl?

Are thick lipped gourami as peaceful as pearl and honey? If so how many of them can I stick in a 50g?

I don't know about the others, but I have 2 female thicklips and they are both (mostly) very sweet. 1 is bigger and she picks on her mate a bit, mostly just chases, no nipping. They did it a lot when they were babies, but now it's slowed down. They've never had issues with any fish they've been with. That being said, they are super curious (one had a trip up a gravel vacuum, lol) and they don't understand personal space. They're really personable though and fun to watch.

I have the sunset variety, so the females are just as colorful ad males. I would imagine you could have a good sized group of them in a tank that large, maybe 3 or 4 or even more, depending on how the males tempermants are. From what I hear they are peaceful as well.

Here's a pic of mine when they were smaller Someone on here once said that they think female gourami are ugly, but I beg to differ, at least with this kind.

 

I have 3 thick lipped sunset gourami in an overstocked 75 gallon community tank.

I had 4 originally, but one died.

I have never seen them act aggressive towards other fish.

They actually sometimes act inquisitive towards other fish and touch them with their feelers.

I don't see why you couldn't have 2-3 thick lipped sunset gourami in your 55g.

 

my tank is about 50 gallon (36" x 18"), biggerfoot print than a 55 gallon but more square than long. I was hoping the thicklipped were like honey qourami (Trichogaster chuna),where they do better in groups if 6. No one here has that many thicked lip gourqmI I I got to keep looking for something that has tried and true history in living with another gourami

 

Not really sure what your looking for then. Honey gourami do good in a group but I don't believe any one person would say they do better in groups of 6 vs some other number. I think any of the 3 you mentioned would do well in a small group of their own species, as long as you have a good ratio of females to males, at least 2 female for every 1 male

 

Honeys maybe too fragile with my other fish. but I haven't seen evidence of people having more than 3 pearls or thick lipped in a 3 foot tank, I guess Ill stick with tried combinations, 1M 2F of one of those species. 3-5 thick lipped with a single male pearl wold have been ideal.
