Question For Api General Cure

I am currently using API general cure to treat inner parasite. The instruction said to two dose in total and then do 25 percent water change. However, if I do not see sign of improvement yet, do I still continue with the treatment and repeat until I see improvement ? Or should I try other medications like tetra parasite guard next.

Do you know if it is roundworms or Hexamita? With roundworms they often still eat but begin to lose weight from the worms taking the nutrients from their bodies- malnutrition. With Hexamita they often don't eat, hide in back of aquarium, are listless... etcc...

Do you have a quarantine tank? If not, what other fish do you have with your angel fish?
Hexamita is a flagellate. Here is a description from Angelsplus.com of symptoms and how to treat it:

"Flagellates: Protozoans such as these cause persistent trouble in situations where angelfish are stressed. Hexamita is one that is very prevalent. It is thought to be present in all angelfish, at least in small numbers, and an outbreak is what you're trying to prevent. It appears to explode in numbers if the fish are too crowded, overfed or being overly stressed by some other situation in the aquarium. Stressing your angelfish, is what you need to avoid. Symptoms: If the angelfish is still eating, they will pass a white, chalky feces. Appetite will decrease. No external symptoms will appear on the angelfish. They are prone to secondary infections of bacteria and other parasites when in this weakened condition. To cure, relieve stress and then raise the tank temperature to 95° F for 7-10 days and medicate with metronidazole, or a medicated food that contains it."

You can get Metronidazole here:

You need to raise temperature and treat with metronidazole. Raise temp two degrees every 12 hours, but begin treating asap. Make sure to aerate with air stone as the higher temperatures decrease oxygen load in water.
He will feel better soon, not much you can do now except to make sure his water is clean as possible.

Instead of looking at brands I would suggest you to look at active ingredients.
General Cure has 250 mg of metronidazole and 75 mg of Praziquantel per package. Praziquantel kills most worms (gives them spasms and in 12 hours they are dead)and metronidazole kills all sorts of protozoas. You can't give your fish metronidazole infinitely because you will end up killing the fish from liver damage.
There are so many possible parasites (nematodes, flatworms, protozoa etc...) that unless you are an ichtologist and sample its poop you will never know what you are dealing with so General Cure would be your best bet as it has 2 of the most famous medicines that deal with intestinal parasites. How have you administered the dose? You can try disolving the stuf

To relieve the stress you would avoid bright lights, sudden movements in front of the tank and give him hiding places. Fish in a bare bottom tank with no decorations will feel unsafe. I have seen it countless of times. Whenever I hold fish on bare tanks they are often times very aware of their environment and skittish. That is why I always add random PVC tubes (I don't think angelfish would fit in one but I deal with smaller species so It works for me) and pack my bare tanks with hornwort, fish act so much better when I do that.

BeanFish thank you very much for the lighting response as well. I totally forgot to look at the ingredients. Now I know how to avoid stress by sudden movement and turn off the light. I do not want to kill the fish from liver damage as well. I totally forgot that just like human prolong of medication can cause liver damage as well. I never know that Praziquantel can kill the parasite within 12 hours.

BeanFish this is how I administer the medication in my ten gallon quarantine tank. I removed activated carbon or filter cartridge from filter an continue aeration. In my 10 gallons of water I empty one packet directly into aquarium. I repeat the dose after 48 hours. Then I wait another 48 hours then change 25 percent of the aquarium water and add fresh activated carbon or replace filter cartridge. I already finished the course of treatment and the only sign if improvement I see is that the fish is moving around more and not hiding in the corner as much. However, it is still not eating and it has been three days now. So I am very worry and wonder if I should continue the treatment until the fish is able to eat. I was looking aat the tetra parasite guard and it saying that the medication can be use without the need of having to raise the tank temperature. Thank you very much for you info . YOur profile is cool is that one of your own fish and what kind of fish is that?
