Question About Sand Substrate/planted Aquarium

As the title says I'm planning on using Sand(tahitian moon sand) and I also am going to use hair grass seeds . wondering if there is something else I should mix in with the sand or should the sand by itself be fine?

not exactly sure what the gallons of the tank is as it was a hand me down , and I was expecting a 29 but I'm not sure but the dimensions are 30 x 12 1/2 x 21 1/2

I currently have 40lbs of sand so it should be thick enough bout 2-3" maybe. at least I hope
what do you guys think about mixing in 20 lbs of eco complete with 40 lbs of moon sand?

HI I have been growing some hair grass in my own tank with just CaribSea Eco-Complete Plant Substrate - Red Coarse-Grade 20 lbs and even though the substrate is low and i'm going to get more the hair grass and anubias in the tank has done really well and grown alot.

So maybe you could put this substrate beneath the sand?

I thought about getting that as well. the whole purpose for the sand is I like the color and it would be nice for my corys. from what ive read in different places is that the sand would just fall through the eco complete and defeat the purpose of the sand. I would like to get that. but I like the moon sand more. I'm paralyzed

Yes typically a nutrient iron rich substrate is recommended as either main substrate or a nutrient layer located beneath the main substrate. The ones I’ve heard good things about are eco-complete and seachem fluorite.

Maybe you could try a layer of potting soil and cap it with the sand, hairgrass can grow pretty well that way, but I don't know if the cories would mess that up

I know right? I thought they were small little things that hardly moved anything but the other day my friend gave me his dad's tank/fish. 3 full grown corys. I had no idea they could get so big. and they stir up quite of bit of stuff >.>
