Hey fishlore I've been looking these fish(congo tetra)and I love em.So I plan on getting a school of them, but I want to quarantine them first as I do with all my fish.Heres the deal I have spare 10 and 20 gallon tank, although I usually use the 10 gallon for quaranting. They would be going into my 40 breeder main display afterwards.Would it be ok to quarantine about six of them or maybe more in the 10 gallon?

Depends on the size you buy them at, Juveniles can go in the smaller tank, adults have to go in the bigger one. And really only for the quarantine period. It will be really on the small end.

Are you going to get Alestopetersius caudalis or Phenacogrammus interruptus? Or even Phenacogrammus aurantiacus?

I was not doubting that, it was more to confirm that it should not be for too long. Keep the tank lid well closed during quarantine.

I'd only put them into a cycled tank with the biological capacity to cope with their bioload. I think that Congo Tetras are quite hardy and I haven't had problems aclimatising them.

That won't be a problem ...How many do you have?

Not necessarily, but they can be a bit aggressive among each other and the smaller the tank the higher the chance one tries to evade aggression by jumping.

I plan on getting at least 6 of them...they are on the larger side tetras, but if im lucky I can find some juveniles as you stated. But if not then I'll set up a 20 gallon quarantine either way.

I have had a dozen in my six foot aquarium but as they have all lived out their lives they have been replaced by Harlequin Rasboras which I prefer.

My Congo Tetras were not as aggressive with each other as my Boeseman's Rainbows but there were some issues between males at times.

Harlequin Rasboras seem free of these issues and are the best dither fish I have kept with my Clown Loaches so far.

I meant the quarantine tank should be fully cycled and able to handle the bioload of what is put in it.
