Welcome to the site. Yes, a quarantine tank needs to be cycled. The best way to make sure a QT is cycled s to have media for the QT filter prepped and ready to go by having it in an established tank.

    Welcome to FishLore :)
It should be cycled to keep the toxins at 0. However, we know it's hard to keep an empty cycled tank lying around.
If you already have a well established tank, you can add some extra filter media to it.
Leave it there for at least 2 weeks. That should give the bacteria a chance to develop.
When you're ready to set up the Q tank, just add the seeded media to it.
It should give you almost an instant cycle.
As always, keep an eye on your parameters.
