Quarantine Method

Hi!

I am about to buy a false juliI cory to add to my shoal. I read on a different website that you can use methylene blue as a preventative during quarantine. I did this with 2 other false juliI cories that I bought, and they did great, but I am just wondering if anybody else uses preventatives like Methylene Blue during QT to help de-stress the fish and give some preliminary help.

Also, when buying cory cats, it is obviously better to buy a group, but would buying one alone make a significant difference to the fish's chance of survival in QT?

Thanks!

I use blue when I qt my tanks. What I do is I have a 2 liter bottle with the top cut off and I place the fish and the water in the bottle. I add 2 drops of blue and then let the fish sit in there for 30 minutes. After the thirty minutes I start a drip line into the 2 liter bottle and acclimate it to my qt thank. I have never had a problem using that method except when I didnt keep fish in qt long enough and killed off a whole 75 gallon tank.

I have bought corys in 2s and 3s but never solos. I have no input on that. sorry! Hope someone else can chime in.

I bought just one once and it was fine, although I didn't QT it and it was in a five gallon tank. Amateur mistakes.

A lone cory should make it through QTing just fine.
