Putting Betta in medicated tank?

I’ve had this betta for the last few years and it just passed away today. I definitely want to look into getting another one, but I don’t know what to do.. the betta that’s just passed had a bacterial infection which I was giving him medication for (I’m not sure of the exact brand but I can check if anyone wants to know) and so I’m wondering if it is safe to put a new betta in the tank I was medicating him in or if I have to get rid of all the water and cycle it all over again?

Did you medicate the tank he was in or have a separate hospital tank?

You don't need to cycle the tank all over again. I'd do a series of heavy water changes to get the meds out. If there's nothing alive in the tank anymore then just feed it with some sort of ammonia source until you get a new betta. That way the bacteria won't die and you won't have to cycle again.

Sorry about your betta. I would also run carbon through your filter to help clear up any remnants of meds leftover in the water. You will want to continue to feed the cycle by at least dropping a couple betta pellets in the tank so the cycle doesn't crash. Keep an eye on your parameters before adding a new fish.
