Purple Parrot vs King Kong... Are they them same? (Other questions, as well)

Are purple parrots and King Kongs the same? Getting conflicted info. How can I anchor plant roots down so they don't get dug up and thrown all over the tank. I'd like to do rocks and plants in my new tank. Anywhere I can look to find ideas? What would be some good green plants for parrots? Hate anacharis. Good tank mates for parrots?

What size tank?

If the purple parrot is dyed, stay away from it. It's a cruel practice.

King Kong Parrots are not the same as the blood parrot:

What size would you recommend? Will be purchasing in a few days. Not dyed like a jelly bean. They're a hybrid.

Parrots require a 55 minimum for a single parrot. Add 10 gallons for each additional parrot. King Kong parrots likely a 90 as they get larger and are more aggressive. However king Kong parrots come in multiple strains and are highly variable in size and temperament.

As far as tank mates it depends on the size of your tank. Assuming you are getting a regular parrot you want fish that are hardy and not to aggressive. Also nothing to small that can be eaten

Thinking about a 65 gallon for a pair of purple parrots. Two AC70 HOBs, BDBS, rocks, plants. I like sparkling gourami, but I think they'll be too small. I really like Picti. Would shrimp be eaten?

Eventually the shrimp would be eaten I'm sure

Can shrimp be kept with Bettas successfully? Dependant on betta?

Probably depends on the beta.

Shrimp and bettas work well together depending on the aggression level of your betta. My male betta has neon tetras with him and they all get along fine. No problems at all (in a 10 gallon).

Cool deal! I'll find a Betta and test him out with a ghost shrimp before I spring for the $6ea Blue Dream Velvets.

Bettas and neons aren't recommended together though (temp differences and neons aren't suitable for a 10 gal), while bettas and shrimp can be.
@ - You might want to test him with dwarf shrimp too. Ghost shrimp are much larger than the dwarf varieties, and he might go after the dwarf shrimp (particularly the babies) and leave the ghosts alone.

What are the dimensions of the tank? Pictus cats need 48x18" footprint tanks, but there are other catfish that would work.

10 gallons are bare minimum for neons, and their temp is similar range. Many people keep neons with bettas, it's not a new thing. Neons are extremely adjustable. Cardinal tetras however that look very similar are not at all compatible as they grow a bit bigger and can't stay in any small tank.

Neon tetra should really be in a 24 inch tank minimum.

Agreed with tyguy7760 - 10 gal is too small for neons, and neons and bettas are not temp compatible. 75 F is the max you want to keep neons, and bettas should be kept between 78 and 82 F.

The tank I'm currently looking at is 36x18x24. I may go bigger depnding on what I find. Thinking about some corys. Could get by with a decent shoal.

Found a 75 gallon tank and stand with a 48.25"x18" footprint. What would be a good stocking? How many purple parrots and I'd like Lake Kutuba Rainbow as the dither fish.

Anders247 what's the temp range for parrots? Those rainbows prefer cooler temps.
VanillaRose - 2-3 might be a good number.

From my research parrots can do 76 to 86 but they prefer 78 to 82 add the ideal range

Not sure, they're hybrids and not found in the wild, so.....

I was just liking the TRF because it said they were good dither fish for the parrots.

Any fish that share Temps and are wide bodied enough not to get eaten will make good dither fish. Praecox rainbow, diamond lemon and black phantom tetras also would make good dithers

I wouldn't really consider an almost 5" fish as a dither species.

Live aquaria is saying that the TRF and Giant Danios both get to be 4" and the Giant Danio seems to be the most popular dither fish. Is having dithers that size bad?

Sorry I am just now getting back. No dithers that size is not bad per se. It just takes up more of your stock room
