Purigen Vs denitrate...

OK. In my latest battle against team nitrates, team water change was winning, but then team nitrate started to take over despite team water change persistance and surprise punches. So, now team water change wants to know what you guys recommend, Purigen Vs denitrate? Team nitrate likes that my flow is at the slowest canister of 200 gph. Should I fill my canister with a ton of Purigen, Matrix or denitrate in the battle against nitrate? Or other products. PS. Team nitrate was harmed in this battle...

3 different items and uses. A flow of 200gph will turn the denitrate in to matrix.
Matrix is bio. The purigen is chemical for removal of organics. So the purigen wins for nitrate reduction in your question.
more to it, but that's what you asked.

Do you have nitrates in your tap?

How high are you nitrates before water changes?

Well. If I don't do them daily, it seems like they get quite high.

This is right now. Last time I said it was 80 ppm, someone asked if I had old tank syndrome. I said nope!!! Just 2 days...

No need to measure ammonia. I'm cycled. Does this mean that it's time to clean my canisters? I have a lot of flow still... But significantly less. Barely any in my fluval. A while back a clown loach may have been sucked up into a canister ( less than a week ago)

Tap is 0-10 ppm nitrates, variable. 2-5 ppm ammonia.

FYI. I treated for parasites and protozoans, not sure If that can increase them.

Also. I put in Purigen but about a month ago.

FYI. This is a new issue!

Purigen never made any noticeable difference in my tank I'm sorry to say. I have had matrix in my hob for over a month now and should really start seeing results now.

I'm not surprised your nitrates rise rapidly if your tap is that high in ammonia!

I switched to matrix recently, so, something I can only assume is dying. Fish, bacteria, or food in my canister, my flow is fast, considering slowing it during feeding. I got away with no worrying about nitrates for quite some time. Now all of the sudden it has vengeance... Going to Clean a canister. What about denitrifying bacteria? Any success?

But more frequent water changes and cleaning out your filter should help too! 80 ppm is quite high.

OK. I do nearly daily WC. lol... OK. 3-4 a week more accurate... But I do get lax on canisters. OK. You think that really matters In nitrates? I've only ever done what I do before

Yes my highest... Sigh. But they were fed heavily then. Trying to combat some skinny diseases too. So it's a battle. ,^

From my fluval. Not THAT dirty. Emptied from bottom hole.

Stinks though.

In case you never saw the fx6 dirty /apart. Smells like poop/sweage a little. This is after a bit over a month. These things are awesome

Is that nitrazorb? You probably need to recharge it (with salt), probably why your nitrates are going back up if its been in there a month. Have you done that before?

That's Purigen. Does it need recharging already. Its been about 1-two months. I'm new to Purigen.

Troops came out to thank me.

before and after canister clean with a 15% water change too. Going to do the others when I get the energy. I hate cleaning those. thanks for all the tips! Also. I added a little more Purigen. ,(250 ml) for a total of 1 L

You were right about my canister. I didn't know it could matter that much.

5vs40 ppm nitrates between those changes

You recharge it when it turns brown.

15% isn't a dent usually. I missed what you are doing for W/C but go up to 40-50 once per week instead of 4/15%.
Good luck

Does it look brown enough. I'm not sure like 1/2 of the little things are browner. It's weird it looks like that kinda rice. Lol. You sent it as I was responding. No. That wasn't a real water change but I had to redd 10 gallons which was my canister holding.

Well it hold 5, but I refilled it with tank water so it's 10 total

For the most part I don't gravel vac bc I can't get to it. Fluval does an amazing job. But I guess after a month or shorter the poop has to go!!!
