Pulling my hair out

Spike and Lila were in a 5 gallon split in 2-- not optimal I know. So when I got the 10 gallon I split it, and moved Lila to it, with Kronos... good.
Spikes tank has a snail problem! So I got the bright idea to pull out the big rock and the plant and give them a HOT SALT BATH
That seemed to kill about 10 snails. So I have the plant in quarantine, I scrubbed the rock with a toothbrush and put it back into the tank.
Another bright idea-- use a little aquarium salt in the tank to stunt snail population. So I am trying that.
Spike is **** b/c he is in a cup until I get him aclimated to the whole process.
Willow is in Q because she is being medicated!
Lila is happy as a lark b/c she has 5 gallons to herself now
Kronos is showing off b/c he can see Lila
Willow flared at Kronos, the tanks were too close, but that is the most action I have seen out of her in 24 hours... I moved the Q tank though.
So, when my 33 gal cycles, that will be willows home, along with some cories and something else.
These waterbabies are killin me! ;D

Don't pull your hair out Genie! the bettas might not recognize you if you show up bald!

Remember betta ownership isn't just a job - it's an adventure!

You're a gem rescuing all these bettas and they're sure keeping you running around, but isn't it rewarding with how great they are?

I suppose it isn't the waterbabies that are killing me-- it is the SNAILS! Evil dirty creatures!

Now that right there is funny!!! LOL!!!

Hey about betta's... I have a tank with the following already in it... ---> 4 male guppy babies, 1 long fin sword, 2 female big bodied sword babies, 1 male big bodied sword baby, 1 silver long fin danio, 1 zebra danio, 1 albino danio, 2 leapord danios, 5 shrimp, and a few soon to be dead snails. The question is will a betta be alright in this tank or will there be issues ??

I am guessing issues but I want to be sure.. ;D

I would also say there would be a 95% chance of issues. In that tank you will have about 30" of fish when they are grown. Just making sure you have a big enough tank for all those fish. Brianna

Yeah I figured there would be issues but wanted to check...

P.S. the long fin sword doesn't grow as big as the others so I am actually at 28.5 inches when they are all fully grown.. ;D Yeup did the research..

Yea, the betta would probably enjoy the shrimp ("they were quite tasty, thanks") and nip the guppies, swords and long fin danio.

Live plants. Snails and snail eggs can hitch rides on live plants.

and the vampire bettas bring them in the night!

lol.. yea, sirdarksol's right - the live plants can bring you snails, even if you check them but miss 1 egg. The pet stores sell those plants in sealed tubes that are supposed to be snail-free and so far, the ones that we bought have been - even if not the healthiest plants.

My snail problem got so bad that I emptied all my fish and decor except for 2 otos and the 4 Dwarf Loaches; 1 heater and the airstone and ABSOLUTELY nothing else but the gravel. I threw out all the plants and decorations as they were totally covered and had snails in every crevice. The Dwarf Loaches were not eating them so Gunnie told me about YO-YO Loaches and I got to go to the big city and to PETSMART and found 3 of them. I came home and put them in the tank (nope did not even quarantine them) and snails started to be eaten. In about 3 days there were visibly fewer of them and then I noticed something really funny, the Yo-Yo Loaches had taught the Dwarf Loaches to eat snails too and all 7 of them were attacking snails with a passion. There were still hundreds of them and more hatching every day to be sure but the bellies of the Loaches were bulging.

We are now down to a few that climb out of somewhere now and again but they are rare and I am supplemental feeding the loaches and otos. As soon as Damon is done with his quarantine I will be able to put him and his plants and decor in there with no qualms at all. He will have to share the tank with some very active fish but he is a very active betta and spunky and has become very brave since he has become a big boy about being alone in the dark . He does like having Nate there next to him though. I would love to divide the tank and have another betta with him but the loaches won't let me.

It's not the plants - it's the fish aliens that beam up our fish that go missing! I know it's them.. The snails are their idea of a practical joke.
