Pudge's Wen

Just noticed this odd red patch on Pudge's wen. Is this a normal growth pattern? FyI he is being treated for an internal parasite. I'm using metroplex and focus as well as garlicguard. Any help would be appreciated. I've had him for over a year and don't want to lose him. Thanks

the white is the wen growth and the red looks like it is nothing but normal to me. the red also seems to be a shadow of the top part of his wen.

Hi. Thanks for your help. It's hard to see in the photo but he has a big red patch going down the side of his wen. Wasn't there earlier today. Just wondering if this is HITH.

can you another picture to help make sure that it is on him and it is not just a shadow that fell on him when you took this picture? try and above view and a side view shot for better proof.

Hmm, nice bubble eye by the way, how about a picture from above the goldfish, I think it is just a shadow from his growing wen but an above picture may prove me wrong. My gold fish never had anything like a dark wen except the natural coloration of the fish.

This is the best I can get. Thankfully, he's still really active.

Sorry about that. Just realized I sent the same picture twice. My bad.

The bubble eye is Paco.

Tried for a close up. But don't think yoy can see any better. It is a darker red and looks a little ragged.

HI there. My red oranda Pudge looks like he has a torn wen. Any advice on how to treat this? Thanks.

upload_2018-9-16_9-14-29.png this is strange and now I understand a bit more now on why you are stressing to know what it is. in this picture it seems that his wen does not actually have a deep gap in it at all like the others pictures show.
upload_2018-9-16_9-14-29.png

upload_2018-9-16_9-18-40.png although in each and every picture it seems to be that the red area is a deep gap in Pudge's wen, sort of like if something ripped or tore a chunk of his wen off of his head. although you shouldn't freak out if you believe that it was your bubble-eye, Paco, or your black Moore that did it because it would be very un likely for any gold fish to every attack someone else, and with the bubble-eyes and the telescope eyes it would be hard for any of those fish to do such a thing. I don't think it is any sort of parasite doing this to him either. It may be that he has his whole wen and I just made a mistake about what it seems to me. it may be the effects of the camera and the lighting with the size of my computer screen that it looks like it is a deep gap in his wen but it may not be. In any event don't panic over what I am saying because I don't know if what I am saying is really true or not.

upload_2018-9-16_9-35-8.png Although in this picture it does seem like there is no problem with his wen an I would say he is fine, but I did see that one of his pelvic fins has some strange sort of bite marks and it doesn't seem like any fish could do that to him. Goldfish are known for their peacefulness towards others, their colors and body type, and their piggishness for eating food. Goldfish don't ever bite any other fish's fins and so that brings me to the thought that Pudge may be getting fin rot. to treat fn rot you should do a water change of about 25% just in case you have fin rot in your tank. fin rot is caused by poor water quality that allows bacteria in the water to start feeding on the fish's fins, slime coat, and/or body. fin rot can cause death so make sure to keep an eye on Pudge's pelvic fins to see if it gets worse or not.

Thanks so much for your help. I treated Pudge's wen by swabbing the red area with hydrogen peroxide. When I got up this morning, his wen is back to normal color and the gap is gone. Will definitely keep an eye on his fin. Didn't even notice that. He and his tank mates are being dosed with metroplex for internal parasites so will address the fin issue along with that. Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

your welcome although I think the wen is nothing at all to worry about. I don't suppose that you are going to tell me that your Black moore is called Pedro by chance?

Might want to remove that decoration that likely caused this issue. I wouldn't use Melafix, I would simply salt tot.1% for the next week or two.
