I put down "Retired" because I haven't worked since 1998 due to a little stroke I had, but before that I was Nurse for 27 years. I worked for the longest time in the field of Industrial Nursing, but also did tours in the fields of Elder Care, and the care of Developmentally Disabled Children. It was a wonderful profession and I miss working with the people very much. I would recommend it to anyone.

Good For You!! I knew we had to have more in common than just our Bettas. I wish you the best and hope that if OB is where you wish to be that there is where you will end up. There is nothing quite as nice as seeing a new life enter this world. Good luck and let us know how you are doing. ;D

I work for the state in the area of the judicial system. Hopefully, we will win the lottery and/or hubby will have a booming business when he retires from his regular job, and I can go back to selling Tupperware or making stained glass as a hobby!

I wish I could win the lottery so that I could open a business (maybe a fish store, lol) I would love that.. Plus more time for my hobbies like you said. I love scrapbooking, but never have enough time

yeah wining the lottery would be nice, i'd open a fish store andkeep all the poor bettas in at least good-sized vases so they wouldnt be squished into those cups :'( :'(

That would be my first thought too Emma! Like 1 gallon vases, so at least its not as bad. I feel so guilty when I see the bettas in the store that don't look like they are doing too good (lost it's color, etc) and they are in their little cups. When I searched for my betta, I went up and down trying to find the best looking one, and then that made me feel guilty because maybe I should have picked one that didn't look as good so I could save it.

I'm a pub manager.
Currently cycling a 200 gallon display tank for the bar
Also, I was having a chat with a guy in my LFS today, and he was explaining why they refuse to stock bettas:
The companies that breed them ship them to the stores in plastic bags that are less than 2" by 3" and contain just enough water to keep the fish wet - they can't move around at all :'(
that makes me very sad. I am very glad that the LFS does refuse to stock the bettas. if people buy them they are condoning the behavior of these cruel people, but I am afraid the poor fish are going to be mistreated anyway for someone will buy them and let them die in their stores. I went to the store here today and out of 17 there were 6 of them dead in their containers. it was so sad, but I couldn't take any of them home with me because I just don't have any more room. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I think fish are definitely the most mistreated (and misunderstood) of all animals

Yes they are.. but it is good that at least there are people like us who do understand

If they don't stock Bettas, that's 200 people a day (for my LFS) that don't have a chance to buy a mistreated fish

If anyone else here is from the UK, I would heartily reccomend Maidenhead Aquatics - they care as much about their fish as anyone here, and rival Dino for their knowledge

Pet City, my LFS is nice to all the fish including bettas, which is good, but at WalMart, the poor Bettas are stocked, and even though you can't actually see it, I can tell that they are crying in there. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
