Prime, then tap water?

Hello everyone!

Is it ok if I were to add my say half a cap ~25 gallons of prime to a 5 gallon bucket, mix it a little dump it in and then add the remaining 20gallons of tap water checking that the temperatures are reasonably close? This will not harm the fish will it?

Thanks,
Brad.

As long as you do it within a few minutes of each other I would say its safe. Just don't wait too long.
I usually add my prime as I am filling up my tank via aqueon water changer so technically, its the same thing.

Hmm I personally have a recycling can 30 gallons that I fill up and treat for 24 hours. The longer tap water sits the more minerals and chemicals it removes. I also have a cheap heater that heats the water to 82 degrees and than I stir the water up a bit and after that its about 75 degrees. Just my opinion. Yes doing what you said will work but I think letting the water sit is better.

if you have that big of a tank you would deff want a aqueon water changer. there is another brand that makes a better one but there hard to find, it called python.

the aqueon uses cheap parts so I would go to the hardware store and pick up one of these parts in the vid below. I also will post a link of the aqueon.

and what people do that use this is add all there prime right into the tank then the water.

Awesome, thanks guys! Yea... after doing this water change I knew I had to find an easier way. I found a few of the Python links at Ken's and wow they are cheap! (Considering how much my back hurts after trying to pick up a five gallon trash pale 6 feet in the air, good thing I work out!).

You think the Python is a better made product? I'm all about spending a little extra if it's well made.

Big thanks to all of you! I'll keep you update on how the fish do

PS... I do have one question!... when you have an automatic pump like this how do you make sure the temperature is relatively close to your tank? Mine doesn't seem to be bothered much as I keep it between 78-80 and it's pretty darn close to my cold water out of the tap.

Thanks,
Brad.

I have never used a python but everyone who has says there better. I was about to order a python but then I found the attachment in the vid. it makes a world of difference so no longer needed the python.

when you have it sucking water out it puts it in your sink. I put a thermometer under the running water tell its the right temp. then you will switch it to flow into the aquarium. you can then move the thermometer to where the water comes out of you siphon.

give me a couple hours and I will post a video for you.

For your first question I've always heard you can not over condition your tap water
