Prime dosing before or after water change?

ANudibranch

Sorry for the poorly worded title (don't want it to be too long) but I was wondering what people's thoughts were on adding prime before or after you add water. right now I have a 5 liter bucket which I dose prime in before I put water in the tank while doing water changes. I was just wondering how you all dose as maybe there is a better way?

I do the same.

Some people pour water in first, then dose. It can be okay because the fish may be exposed to a small enough concentration of chlorine/chloramine short term that would not kill or harm them long term. However, not everyone's tap water has low enough concentrations of chlorine/chloramine and/or make small enough water changes that this is safe. And if one is not careful, the fish can very easily die from chlorine exposure.

So to be safe rather than sorry, I personally prefer to dose the water before adding it in.

Before preferably. You're doing it right.
