Preparing A Betta Tank

I'm getting ready for a new betta!!!

I have a 5 gallon with an LED white and blue light.

What I'm planning to get:
Live plants (java fern/Malaysian red java fern, moneywort)
Substrate (pool filter sand)
Heater (any cheap but good suggestion from stores?)

I'm going to be getting a koi plakat. If not, it'll be one that I got very attached to (most likely a plakat regardless, I like smaller fins on them)

Congratulations!
I think a five gallon is perfect, it's a standard size.
Those are lower light plants, which shouldn't have issues with lighting.

You can try a Hydor heater or Aqueon.
I personally love the Hydor 25 - 50 watt for betta tanks, it heats evenly.
I hope it goes well, and the betta will love it

Alright! When I'm able to go to a pet store I'll check them out.
This is what the tank looks like currently- I'm thinking of keeping the big rock, maybe as a centerpiece hardscape.

Do you have any opinions of vallisneria spiralis in a 5 gallon? I know that it grows tall, I just really like how it looks when it reaches the top of the tank.

You could do vals, you'd have to trim them more often though.

I like the Hydor Theo however I do own two of the Sungrow Betta Heaters from Amazon and those are working just as good as the Theo and for half the price... The nice thing about the Theo is you can turn the dial for each single degree (really helpful in my small tanks and rooms that fluctuate a lot in temp). The Sungrow I have are 50watt and you can set in designated increments so I use those in my 5 and 15 gallon. I also have some small heaters without a thermostat Aqueon MinI Heater and Tetra Submersible and unless you can babysit those... I would not recommend.

The tank isn't quite finished, I still need substrate and a few more plants, but...
Heres Cinnabar! She was a bit of an impulse buy, I was trying to wait until the tank was done, but we went to petco to get dog food, my parents owe me at $60, and there she was.
The stuff on the bottom is sand particles from a while ago.
