Pregnant Platy Fish

hello! I have 3 pregnant platy fish in my 10 gallon tank. I am interested in getting a breeder box and I saw that top fin has a 3 way breeder box. does this mean there is space for all 3 of my fish or do I need to buy 2? thanks!

Honestly I just took part in a discussion about this. Breeders stress females and stress can cause her to lose babies or hold in . Best option is to have a well planted tank bottom (for babies to hide ) and hope for best. Good chance you'll lose some but keep all the tank members well fed.
Of course of note is tank is far too small to have even one batch of fry in.

hello! I have 3 pregnant platies in my 10gal tank. I was interested in getting a breeding box to keep the fry safe, but is there one that houses 3 fish? or do I just need to get multiple boxes? TIA!

Is it just the three females? I'd just stick some mops and dense cover for the fry, and most of them should survive, putting fish in a breeder box unecessarily is best avoided....

Hello mga...

Moving the females or setting up a breeding box isn't needed. It's stressful for the fish and the fish keeper. Injuries are very possible and you risk losing the adult and the fry. A 10 gallon tank is very small and not the place for large livebearing Platy females. Since you have them, drop in several stems of Hornwort or another bushy type floating plant. The more plants, the better. The females have more privacy and the fry will move immediately to the surface for air and protection from the adult fish. Start feeding a little more and more often. Well fed adult fish aren't likely to bother the fry. Keep up on the water changes. 50 percent removed and replaced a couple of times a week isn't too much.

Above all, make plans for a much larger tank. 30 gallons at least if you want to keep the fish from stressing due to crowded conditions.

thank you! I have lots of plants and caves in my tank so hopefully some will survive. I plan on putting one or two in my other 10 gallon and taking the rest to my lfs.
