Pregnant or not pregnant?

Reylon0499

Hi, I am just looking for a little bit of assistance really. I have kept fish for a little over 3 years, having black mollies produce fry before, however have not had balloon mollies produce any so far. Today I noticed my Balloon mollies stomach looks rather flat at the bottom and enlarged, anyone able to have input if they believe she is pregnant or not? Thanks in advance.

Only seen that boxy belly on mollies when they are pregnant. So my guess would be most likely

Certainly better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

If there are male mollies in the tank the females will be pregnant (or if the females have had contact with a male in the past couple months, pregnant, they store sperm). I would make sure there is cover for the fry to hide in, balloon molly offspring aren't as fast as regular ones because mom can't hide as easily or more as faster. Fluffy (real or fake) plants from top to bottom of the tank in a couple places will help fry hide until you can either find and pull them or make sure they can safely stay there.
