Help!! My pregnant guppy is somewhat tilted to her right. She seems to swim fine but sits on the bottom of the breeder box. For the past two days she's been pooping long clear string that seems to take forever to be released. I don't know what to do. Any advice??

Pregnant guppy sick??

My pregnant guppy is tilted slightly to her right. Seems to be swimming fine but mostly just lays on the bottom of the breeder box. Is she sick or about to have fry?? Please help, all advice appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I'm not very familiar with pregnant guppies but I thought you would need to wait until the guppy is about to give birth (where the belly looks squarish) and then put it in a breeder box or separate tank? I'm not too sure but your pic doesn't seem like the guppy is close yet to dropping fry so it's possible that she's stressed?

I also noticed you have another thread about the pregnant guppy having clear stringy poop? Could be parasites but I'm not sure what the effect is when treating pregnant fish with meds. Please hold for more responses from members more knowledgeable on both issues.

Long clearish stringy poop didn't necessarily mean parasites, but if it's taking an abnormally long time to fall off I'd say she's likely a bit constipated. Which could also explain why she's tipping to the side as it can mess with their swim bladder.

Try feeding her a thawed, de shelled frozen pea that has been mashed up, that will act as a laxative and hopefully help.

She doesn't seem to be eating. I tried giving her the mashed up pea but she ignores it or spits it back out.

She's completely laying on her side now. Hoping she makes through the work day. Guess we'll see..

I'm sorry hon, I really don't know what else to try for her. Fingers crossed she pulls through!

Update: my guppy female has passed but not without giving birth to 11 fry. I guess the birth was to hard on her, but such a strong mommy making sure all her babies were delivered before letting go.

Wow, sorry for your loss but at least her death was not in vain. Best of luck to you and your fry.
