Yip, that's the reality, If you have females and a male together, they are pregnant, don't even doubt the fact!

Our LFS will buy them from us. The larger we let them get, the more they pay us for them. Not lots of money, of course, but at least a few bucks in store credit. Last time we got $5 for about a dozen molly fry.

Yeah, we're lucky to have a really good LFS. Its almost an hour drive each way for us but its definitely worth it. I'm usually out there almost every weekend, sometimes twice. They don't give money, just store credit, but it turns out the same anyway since I'm always out there buying something or other.

How do I know if a female guppy is pregnant? I see that one of my guppies which does not have such a BIG stomach but a black spot by her anul fin so I put her in a breeder net/box in my tank( her stomach is not small just not big) can anyone send me a picture of a pregnant guppy or tell me how to be sure?

Hello wonderfulge. Femal guppies wil have a gravid spot seen in the pic of my girl:

186.jpg

as you can see, it is a really dark spot. The female, before she gives birth, tends to have the stomach a littlbit biger and it looks like she swalloed a square. it looks squared off.

Hello Wonderfulge. Guppies give birth every 28 to 40 days. If she has a gravid spot but doesn't have a large belly I wouldn't put her in a breeder net just yet. It could really cause unnecessary stress on the girl The decision is yours of course and too you know how long you've had the fish so use your best judgment. I'd hate for you to lose your fry and the mother too. Can you post a photo of her?
Best of luck and keep us posted.

Yea, both of my girls went huge and looked really square at the gravid spot and out popped the babies a couple of days later, so when she gets like that, keep a good eye on her!
Good luck, and if any babies are in the main part of the tank, even more good luck catching them! Ive completely gutted my tank to catch them before, they're so fast but tiny and cute

Prenant Guppies should have a Gravid spot, although some are more obvious than others, Could you perhaps post a pic?

I saw this pic on the site in another post and thought it might help. The red line is what it looks like squared off. My female guppies gravid spot does not show much when you first turn on the lights but after a few minutes you can see it. It looks like a black spot right at the end of the belly before the tail starts. Good Luck

be careful of the breeder nets as they can stress the moms out.............

three of mine are definitely pregnant now and have large bellies with gravid spots... I put all three of them in the breeder box with a small plant in it for the fry to hide in when theyre born. did I do wrong by putting them all in it? if I don't theyll jist be born in the tank and they all look about 3-5 weeks pregnant...

I have a pregnant guppie too. I recently moved and ended up with an extra 8 gal tank, and I started it and left it empty threw the cycle. so when the cycle was over I went to the fish store and wanted guppies but they raised to prices and they only had one female left....so I bought her and took her home. on the ride home I realized there was a baby in the baby with her...but she still looked pregnant. so I think it just got scooped from the store tank without notice. Any ways so I watch my female everday...shes very pretty and I know shes pregnant...but it feels like every time I look at her, her belly looks different. ( shes very shy all the time) iv had her for about 2 weeks. at first I put her in the tank and had some white cloud fish with her, but they started shredding her beautiful tail so I moved the cloud fish in with my gold fish and they all get along...so my female is completely alone (besides the baby) and a plico.....she started looking squared off but then I went back to look at her an little while later and she doesn't look so squared off.... still no babies tho???

HI All,
Just about 2 weeks back, my guppy give birth to around 10 fries. I have a doubt ? What to feed with these fries ? Currently I have put some plants in the fry tank. But I am not sure whether this will help. I am also putting some BBS twice a day which I prepared for my betta fries and these guppy fries feed on them happily. Any other food I can put for these fries ?

I've created a separate thread to help you gain more responses.

I feed my guppy fry BBS and finely crushed tropical flake.

I feed my fry a special fry food made especially for guppies that I found at my LFS. I also feed microworms and crushed tropical fish flakes. It is best to feed them 3-6 times daily to help them grow. Good Luck with your guppies!

Your guppy is pregnant, but she doesn't appear to be ready to drop her fry yet. When livebearers are ready to give birth their stomachs get a very boxy, almost square look about them. Let us know how she does after dropping her fry!
