Powerhead type filters any good?

I'm looking to add a bit more filteration to my 55. But I don't really want to rip out another piece of the hood to add another HOB and I don't like the look of internals.... or sponge filters. I know! I know! That's probably an unpopular opinion, but I just don't like the look. So I'm considering like a powerhead type filter? Are they good? Are they worth it?
I have zero experience with them and don't know anyone that uses one.

Do you mean canister filter? If so, I use both a SunSun and Eheim. I highly recommend both brands.

No, I mean a powerhead. Or at least that's the only thing I've seen it called.

Sorry but power heads don't filter like HOB or canister. But I guess if you slide a sponge on the intake it will catch some stuff but not nearly like an internal sponge filter.
Also that particular power head from walmart, I just bought the same one and had to take it back inside a week because it started to make a loud whining noise.
I believe your best bet will be a canister.

Agree with scarface a canister would be your best bet here. What is the filter you have now?
