Powerhead Gph

I want to add powerheads to get more circulation in my tanks. I have a 20 gallon hex and a 60 gallon. Both tanks are tall and I have a lot of dead spots. I want powerheads that are strong enough to make a good current that will kick up the poop but not too strong that my fish will be blown around. What gph do I need for the 20 gallon hex? What about the 60 gallon? Also any recommendations for a good relativley inexpensive powerhead would be much appreciated.

For a 20 gallon, the minimum gph is 160 gph, so I will get the Aquaclear 50, which is 200 gph.

For a 60 gallon, the minimum gph is 480 gph, so I will get the Aquaclear 110 which is 500 gph

For circulation I like Koralia Nano circulation pumps.... 260 gph and 450 gph options. The 450 was too strong in my 55 gallon, so switched to the 250. I also use a aquaclear 20 powerhead with 120 gph... might be better for your 20 gallon tank.

Would it matter that the 20 gallon is a hex and therefore not very wide each panel is about 9in. wide? That's what concerns me the most. Should I get something rated for a 10 gallon instead of a 20? I just need to get rid of the dead spots in the sand.

Air stone connected to air pump would be easiest... But noisy.

You could try the AquaClear 10 powerhead if you want to avoid air pumps.. Only 80 gph.. maybe point it upwards ... One should be enough to eliminate dead spots. Make sure to put some foam or prefilter sponge on intake to protect your fish and the impeller.

AquaClear Powerhead 10 - 110 V, 80 Gallons per Hour Aqua Clear

You will have to experiment and see what works best for you. :/
