Potting soil in aquarium

Hello FishLore,
So I saw someone use organic potting soil in a fish tank. They put a sand cap over it. Since my tank is going to have plants, would this be okay? I would also put the sand cap. It would be about 1/4-1/2 inch potting soil layer followed by 2 inches sand. This will be put in the tank before the fish, obviously because of cycling.
Here is some information about the tank.
It would be a 10 gallon betta tank with just a single betta with a ton of Anubias, Amazon sword, and easy stuff like that.

Yes. I have a 10 gallon dirted, sand capped tank and I love it. Just make sure you pick up the right kind of soil, which I'm assuming you know about since you mentioned it in your post.

I actually did this with my 10g betta tank too. I used regular dirt outside but it's dirt. Just make sure to clean the sand and the dirt before using (I honestly couldn't tell which one took longer to clean haha). As long as the soil has no chemicals or fertilizers in it, as I'm sure you know, you're solid.
