how do i get my ph from 6.6 to 7.6 ot at least in the 7 column in a freshwater tank that houses two mystery snails and two red cherry shrimp? can i use baking soda or with that harm my inverts?

edit: i have been testing with a hand help ph tester and its been telling me its 7.2 or higher so because i have been having such a nitrite issue i tested ph with my api test kit and came out 6.6 which could potentially be my issue in the first place... darn hand held.... but i dont want to mess with ph too much as i read chasing ph is a bad hing. i just want my tank to cycle and my fish and inverts to stop getting ill and dieing. please help
