Possible New Goldfish Owner

Alrighty, so I’ve owned the same fancy guppies for around 3-4 years now, and I’m ready for a change; a new variety of fish, ya feel?

I’ve of course been doing research, and I’m interested in some goldfish, possibly black moors.

While I adore the black moors’ dark color, I’d also like a more “typical”, brighter goldfish; some pop of color in the tank.

My question is: can a black moor live with another kind of fancy goldfish? maybe a ryukin?

While doing research and getting input from a fish-loving friend, I’ve come to the understanding that moors are slow swimmers due to poor eyesight with their large eyes, so I want to be sure the moor is safe, can avoid injury/harassment from another goldfish, and can manage to get a hold of the food without the other goldfish getting to it too quickly.

Also, what tank size would be recommended for two fancy goldfish (either two moors or two different kinds)? And what kinds of plants/decor would you recommend? I don’t want to risk the moor getting injured.

My other issue is this: while I will be purchasing a larger tank for these goldfish, I still have my 10 gallon tank of guppies. Due to being such an animal lover, I’d honestly hate to see my guppies go...what are my options? I’d keep them, but I’d need a lot more time on my hands to take care of two fish tanks; plus, guppies cannot live with goldfish, I’ve heard.

And maybe as a bonus: what are some creatures I could house in a 10 gal tank?

Thank you for any help/input in advance

Hi, goldfish are amazing creatures you can have them with other slow moving fancy goldfish just avoid common goldfish there are better suited for a pond because they grow BIG and swim like torpedos ! You obviously need to avoid sharp decorations as rocks or fake plants you can put moss balls and anubias plants. For two fancy goldfishes you will need 30 us gallons in a horizontal tank and plenty of biological filtration. If you go with HOB filters you will need 10x in water volume turnover in order to have enough biological filtration or an external canister filter with the same (more the better ) gallon rating
what are some creatures I could house in a 10 gal tank?
the guppies , snails, shrimps or a Betta.
If you have any more question or dint understand what I was saying ( sorry for the limited English ) feel free to ask

I found that Hornwort thrived in my goldfish tank ( wintered my family's pond fish, while preping the 38 gallon for personal use) It grows as fast, or faster than they can eat it lol. If using HOB filters, one on each end is a great setup- keeps the whole tank nice and clean, and they ike the current. Definitely use a prefilter sponge- my aquaclear packed in because of one of the golfish spitting into the intake! The Aqueon Quietflow held up the the goldfish really well, though I found it loud....it's a good solid filter. I like to pack it with Aquaclear media, to save money, because all of my other tanks use Aquaclears and I buy bulk boxes of media and don't like cartridges. With a prefilter sponge, they and the API Superclean my personal favorites(again, packed with aquaclear media).

If you want to give them a treat, they LOVE watermelon- they go at it like 3 year olds with ice cream

yes they are very useful in catching dirt so the biological media won't get clogged.

Thank you for the tips and that’s so cute, I didn’t know goldfish would munch on watermelon!

If you want a splash of color in your tank, but are worried about a black moor not being able to compete for food, you could get a telescope goldfish. I don't have any myself to post pictures of, but if you do an search for "telescope goldfish," you can see the variety of colors they come in. Since they have the same protruding eyes, I would assume they would work well with black moors.
