hello I have a juvenile syndonis eurptus catsih in a 5 gallon tank and noticed some white specks that appear to be early stage ich surrounding his left pectorial fin. I do have a 65 to transfer him to this is my quarantine/grow out tank. I wanted a second opinion on an ich diagnosis before I increased the tmep and treated with nox ich and low levels of salt

Never use salt with catfish or snails it WILL kill them. Just turn the temp up to 80 and treat with some API Super Ick Cure Freshwater & Saltwater Aquarium Fish Medication, 10 count or API Liquid Super Ick Cure Freshwater Aquarium Fish Medication

Are those ones safe for catfish at full dose? Once I saw it I did some research and saw how sensitive to salt catfish and snails are so I did do that. I also read that they can be sensitive to medication, are those a little less abrasive to them? And should I remove my purigen when treating the tank?

I would do smaller dose of the meds bc I’m not sure but I can tag some other people.

I’m not so good with meds but I can diagnose it. Does it look like coloring or grains of salt? What are your parameters?

The only reason I could think of stress is I just switched from HOB built in filter to a small fluval 106 canister and more light is let into the tank now. Can I ick be kept alive on plants? I added some anubius a few days ago.

I say just turn the temperature as high as you can do and see if that works first

I just got rid of an ich outbreak in my tank with API super ick cure but only used a half dose because of my Cory and bumblebee catfish as stated on the bottle use only half dose for scaleless fish.

Ok, that’s Ick. I’d reccomend turning the heat up to about 82-84 degrees, and see if that works for a week before adding meds.

One more question if I do end up needing to medicate should I remove my purigen? I know you need to remove carbon but will it affect the quality of my purigen filter media?
