When I lived in Arizona I had a porch pond. Still miss it, but worry that here in Colorado it just wouldn’t be practical. I used retaining wall blocks and a pool liner.

Nice!
I may have to try that style in the future.

So anyway, caught the goldfish getting fishy again. Have not gotten stones to plant the box yet, so I tossed in a clump of Hornwort in case they get fishy in the morning.

Moved a few things around in the garden today. Endler tub is off to the right to catch more morning sun and the fig should block a bit of that morning sun on the goldfish :)

I have a 300 gal Rubbermaid stock tank with fancy goldfish, been fighting first algae bloom of the season, but got it cleared up. Don't have any current photos

Very much so. Nice place to sit with a cup of coffee, read a book or have a smoke. Just wish the porch was a bit larger so I could sit across the bench :)

I don’t have a pond, but I love the term fishlorians!

I had a porch pond once in my livingroom. I was planning to put it in the backyard. But I've assembled it in the livingroom. Once I was done, I've noticed that it was too big to get it through the door. So, I've put it in the corner of the livingroom. Started to keep baby koi in there but later on, guppies were swimming in there and the baby koi moved to the smaller pond in the backyard.

Heh, whoopsy daisy this morning. Went to empty the hopper from my espresso and, uh, missed the garden. Fished out most of the puck of grounds, but obviously some got in the pond. Wonder if they want some cream and sugar?

Didn’t snap a pic, so here’s my mead starter picking up some wild yeast in front of the pond :)

Mead starter? I think you need to post about that! :)

It’s my first go so I decided to learn the old school method which is very similar to other fermentations I’m familiar with (lacto fermented veggies, sourdough, etc…) Local honey, sundried on the bush berries and dried hibiscus flowers from the garden. Play with it a bit and learn on “cheap” honey before I start experimenting with good single source honeys like meadowfoam (toasted marshmallow flavor) or buckwheat (tastes like the smell of a horse barn, in a good way) to see how it effects the mead. But at that point I’ll be using packaged yeast to ensure consistency and offer a better guarantee (no guarantees with what is alive. It’s basically a drinkable pet)

I found these in my patio pond. They move a bit but I don’t know what they are. Anyone know?

I have those in my above ground growing for my Hydrocotyle triparta 'Japan'. I was wondering what those were too.

Leeches is what I was afraid of gah.
I’d think the fish would eat them, but I guess not. Well this is upsetting.

Net some out and get a better picture.

Some planaria look a bit like leeches too.

Got some more bog plants today, probably a bit late in the season but couldn’t help myself. . . but hey, I got some free baby goldfish with my Purchase. Some of the plants my local nursery had must’ve come in with eggs on them, and since they drain their pond at the end of the year they gave me the fish for free.

I also made some “fry baskets”. My understanding is that these allow smaller fish and fry to hide from larger fish that might eat them? The holes in the pond baskets seem too big to really keep the fry from escaping though??? Anyway I saw this build on YouTube a long time ago and just had the supplies lying around.

Started setting this up on the landing as summer will soon be dwindling. That lamp is temporary, just need to make / find a mount so I can light the mangrove tree better. The mangroves grow light will sit on top of the lid which will have a cut out. All LED so should be ok. Will move some fish into it here and there until I figure out how long the Endlers can handle being outside.

Tossed in a few sprigs of Hornwort and Duckweed. Thinking about adding Guppy Grass and FrogBit.
