Help I've done. The 5 day treatment on my veil tail batta we got him at pet Co a couple months ago. I noticed Popeye and got maracyn 2 and have done 5 days of treatment and his Popeye has got worse in the last day or so he is still eating. And is very responsive still though. It's a 35 gallon tank I have had Japanese trapdoor snails but they are removed no heat and a carbon filter Wich I've removed the carbon.

What are your pH ammonia, nitrites and nitrates? Popeye in one eye can be the result of an injury, in both eyes it's usually bacterial. Since your fish is actually doing worse you may need a different type of antibiotic. And clean water. Kanaplex is Kanamycin ans may be more effective for treating your fish.

I would treat with kanaplex from seachem and do 20% water changes every other day. Are there other fish in the tank? You can also do epsom salt baths to help the popeye, but make sure they are baths and you are not adding directly to the tank.

Also his eyes were cloudy but now they aren't but are puffed out like a bubble

Yes that is popeye. The kanaplex should help that along with the epsom salt baths. Do not add it to the aquarium, do it as a bath outside the aquarium. A teaspoon of salt every half gallon is good. Make sure you are doing regular water changes and the water parameters are good.

Will kanaplex affect my Japanese trapdoor snails I've had them in a smaller tank.

Not too sure as I have no experience using that medication with snails. I have read it can hurt them along with live plants, I would maybe move your betta into a small temporary tank for now. Do you have a smaller tank? Like a 5g? Move him in there with a fake plant and heater. He should be good. Do 50% water changes every other day and treat with the kanaplex in that. Then do the salt baths on the side in a different container (make sure it is pure epsom salt with no additives).

Hey so I have a veil teil betta that had Popeye in both eyes I treated win maracyn 2 and didn't help so I put him in a smaller 2.5 gallon sphere tank I have been doing daily 50/50 water changes and giving him a 15 min salt bath for about 2 weeks. He eats 3-6 pellets every day. Both eyes are barely bulged. He is staying at the top of the water around the edge of the glass.

Hi! Smart move moving him to a smaller tank for now. Are you doing salt baths with AQ salt or Epsom salt? You need to use Epsom salt to draw out fluid from behind the eyes, not AQ salt. Also try kanaplex, 1 round worked well to cure up my guys popeye.

Awesome. You mentioned his eyes are not bulged too much. Just keep the water extra clean, like 20% water changes every other day or something. Or just up your weekly water change to 2x a week. Other than that I can only recommend the kanaplex because I found it works wonderfully. Best of luck!
