Poor Reputation Rating

This only just started yesterday. Every time I go to FishLore's site on my Droid RAZR, I get a warning message saying,

"Warning

This site has a poor reputation based on user ratings, would you like to continue?"

I keep having to touch Continue... and it's getting annoying...

Last year, we had some problems with malware hidden in banners. The poor ratings may be fallout from that. Or, as AkarI said, it could just be someone who's been banned or something posting a bunch of negative ratings.

How do I make this popup message go away, then? Any idea?

In addition to reviewing server logs daily I also go directly to the sources which are below. I don't trust the reviews on those "reputation rating" sites. I noticed some of the reviews claiming that we were hosting malware as of Dec. 2011. I'm sure it's unscrupulous competitors or banned members. Total Bunk.

Google crawls thousands of pages every day and we would get 0 traffic if there was malware here.

Google: Google Transparency Report
Norton: Report for fishlore.com | Norton Safe Web
McAfee: McAfee SiteAdvisor Software – Website Safety Ratings and Secure Search

To be clear, this is happening on my phone, not my laptop. I don't know why.

Do you know what the name of the app/service is that is giving the issue?

Dolphin Browser HD

I use that too on my droid. I just tried pulling up the site and no issues.

Who is your service provider (verizon, tmoblile, etc)? Maybe I can track down what services your provider is using.

Do you get the message if you use the default browser on your phone?

I never use the default browser...

Just tried it on the default browser.

Nope. No message.

Yeah, it's up to date... Thanks for the link.

I don't know. I just find all this very annoying and odd because this is the only site that does it. I guess I'll just deal with it.

The problem is that if it's using mywot.com for it's reputation ratings there's nothing I can really do about it other than post a rebuttal, which I did on their site. It's really a total sham. They take anonymous user reviews and form the basis of a website's reputation on it. These could be from banned members, spammers and competing websites.

I do find it interesting that if I pay just $422 per year I can get a mywot "seal of trust".

Here's the link to fishlore on mywot if anyone wants to review:
Check out the vendor reliability and child safety scores. Really?
1. We have no vendors
2. We have a privacy policy and the only email you get from fishlore is when you register
3. I would say that we are child friendly, especially when other competing sites are listed as child friendly... there are no inappropriate adults only things going on in here.

Unless people think that, because we don't allow kids under a certain age to join, we're not child friendly.

This site is definitely a sham, though. Ridiculous.

That's a sweet business model. First, give small-business sites (or sites that appear to be small businesses or popular community hubs) bad ratings. Second, charge them an exorbitant fee to have the bad ratings removed and replaced with ad copy.

I expect they'll recommend ANYTHING to the public for $422 per year.

They should be ashamed of making money like this...perfect example of corporate
greed.

If a webmaster is dumb enough to pay that fee, then their site probably deserves a poor rating anyway. Lol

Is it anonymous? If so, I'll do the same.

Mike
  • #27
Yes it is anonymous. You don't even have to verify your email address which is the main issue. You get a disgruntled member or competitor and they can tank your reputation rating on that site easily.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like a well designed or reputable site for website ratings.

I added my comment and rating

I think the actions of members here may have worked because I haven't gotten the message in quite some time now.

Thanks!
