Hi! I have never had a koi or know little to nothing about them except they're in the goldfish family. Last night I saw something that horrified me. I was at Petsmart picking up some minnows for a friend and there were 2 ladies all excited talking to the clerk. I was told I had to wait , no problem. These ladies then proceeded to pick out 3 koi, probably around 6-7 inches long,,,gorgeous fish. Anyway I ask what size tank they had or pond.....and they point and say "That one". They had just purchased a 30 gallon bow front. I was like "what...you're buying the tank and fish at the same time"..but didn't say it out loud. Long story short...clerk asked them about filtration, cycling, etc......"My grandma had fish for years...never ever used that and I'm not about to start now. If they die it's on me." Was their reply and I was horrified. I sadly and secretly waved good bye to the koi and wished them a silent good luck People like that shouldn't be allowed to buy fish...but I guess there was nothing the clerk could do..she looked very unhappy even though they had just spent over 300 dollars. Poor koi...hope they make it. I will add that we have a 40 gallon breeder tanker with 4 fancy goldfish and I know we have it over filtered with a sponge filter and 2 other filters. Goldfish are messy
