pool filter sand water wont clear!

I drained my tank of all the water and removed all of the gravel. I spent about 30 minutes rinsing out the pool filter sand. The water was running clear so I decided it was okay to add it to the tank. WRONG! I filled up the tank and it looks like I changed the water with milk. It is so cloudy! I have already done two full water changes but the water isn't clearing up. I have my fish inside little Tupperware bowls but they have already been in those for over an hour now. Will cloudy water kill them? I want to get them back into my tank asap!

I don't know if its safe for the fish to be in there ( maybe someone else will be able to answer that ) but I know when I put sand in my 6 gallon fluval ( new start up ) it took about 3 days to fully clear up! Like you, I rinsed really well but it was milky white even still. It will settle down but it may take a few days. Is your filter running?

I haven't tried running my filters yet. Think I should try that out?

Yes. They should really help.

Yes that will help - be patient though - if it doesn't clear in a few days, then I would do more water changes. I just think it needs time to settle. Good luck!

Yes but I can't keep my goldfish in little bowls for a couple of days, they will die.

Do you have another filter? If so, you can probably put them in a bucket as they don't really need a heater - a few days should be okay.

When. I did my change to pool filter sand I filled the tank up after washing the sand and I couldn't see the back. I did a 50 percent water change waited an hourand it cleared up a lot but not enough to see the back. So I put my fish in and after 3 days my tank was crystal clear

Okay the filters did the trick! I just added my fish and shrimp back, everyone seems to be doing fine
