Can I use a polyester laundry bag to cover up my filter intake, I am worried about my juvenile Cockatoo Cichlid getting sucked in, don’t want another death.

The bags haven’t been used before, just making sure the material is safe.

I would think it be Ok as long there isn't any chemicals like bleach in it.

No, it's dye free, and 100% polyester material.
I don't know if I will add it, I put my hand up to the intake, and it didn't feel like it would suck him in at all.

You could always get a sponge and maybe remove the intake grate and put the sponge in it's place.

Just cut a sliver in the sponge and stick it in there.

Seems like it would be ok, we always stuffed poly fill into our sump bag for filtration.

I ended up not needing it, left it out.
The apistogramma cacatuoides did just fine
