Could you post a picture?
Any idea of the cause? Tank mates, parameters?
Keeping the aquarium well maintained should help, 50% water changes a few times this week and next.

gonna try to post a photo, I have 2 gouramis, a plexo, 3 female betas, 3 cherry barbs, 4 mollies, 2 Corydoras, 8 neon tetras, 2 goldfish (should probably take them out) and 4 guppies. maybe it was the filter, maybe it was rocky, the pleco?

That sounds like one crowded tank. Frequent water change definitely in order.
Are these dwarf or full size gouramis ?

ah. a dwarf. there is a disease that affects only DGs, but i don't think this is it. did you quarantine him? what is the other gourami? if it is a male dwarf i think we may have found your problem.
theyre the same kind, they look exactly the same, how small should the tank for only the gourami be ? I took the goldfish out

male dwarf gouramis are agressive, especially in such a small tank. they need separate tanks, or return one.
Edit: wait where did you put the goldfish? is the tank heated?

should I add new water, or transfer water from the tank he was in, they are both a red color like that. so im assuming they're both males..
Thanks so much for your help so quickly! really appreciated!

Add some water from the established tank, as well as taking some media from the filter, as that's where the beneficial bacteria lives.

Ouch that looks nasty. I very much doubt it’s any disease for it to of happened overnight.

The other Dwarf, Pleco or the Bettas could’ve been the culprit however it’s likely the other Dwarf.

Anything will do if it’s temporary, just remember to heat and ideally filter it.

You have several problems here.
2 male dwarf gouramis should never be kept together.
your pleco most likely needs a bigger tank, can you post a pic?
cherry barbs need groups of 6+
mollies get too big for a 20 gallon
corydoras need groups of 6+
your goldfish need at least 150 gallons
so I recommend Rehoming the pleco(waiting on pics)
rehoming the mollies
unless you moved the goldfish to a HUGE tank or pond they need to be rehomed
And dwarf gouramis really aren’t compatible with bettas so rehome them.

so ideally you will end up with
3 female bettas (if they don’t get along get a couple more)
6 corries of the same type
8 neon tetras
6 cherry barbs
OR
4 guplies
i also see a serpae tetra, do you have anything else that you didn’t say in the tank?

I got them at petco, yes the tank is heated.
Is he gonna be okay ?
will this grow or heal at all on its own ??
