Pls Help Green Algae Water

my tank has had a massive algae bloom. Green water. I have turned off all the lights and had it cover for 2 days. It seems to be getting better. Did a water changer as well. I was told if I leave the tank covered and feed the fish every other day the tank will be ok. Do I need to do a water changer after the green goes away again?

You need to figure out why your tank is green in the first place. Starting with the cause will find your cure. How long has your tank been set up and what are your tank readings?

Ways to remove green algae bloom.
1 big water changes and clean filters.
2 buy a water polisher (Marineland magnum 350). This will remove all algae out of tank. Run it till water is clear than for an hour after water changes. Clean filter after every use.
3 uv steralizer. May take a week but will kill all algae.
After all of above start using an algaecide like apI co2 booster or flourish excel. Both will keep the algae away. But must be used daily. Good luck .

Yes, change water and siphon bottom. Dying algae could cause minI cycle spikes.

Did you get a timer for your lights? I just get the cheap mechanical ones that you can plug into.

Trying not to use chemicals. From research it looks like a lot of the algae chemical harm the fish and /or kill them.

True I’ve also read the reviews. But lots of people here do use them. I’m using the apI co2 booster and I am happy with what it does. No problems with fish as of yet. It even keeps the bba away.

Do you have an air stone? I had mine set too low and it wasn't moving enough water to get to the filter. I used some filter floss and mine was gone in a matter of hours. My bettas don't like a lot of water movement so I had to set to really low. I was fighting with daily water changes. Once I turned up my air stone,I haven't had to do a water change in a few days.
