Plecostomus Photos

I'm always combing through the tanks at the LFS for morphs I haven't' seen.
This one unfortunately faded as is common with plecos and well lots of other fish. Some get brighter as they grow others fade, Tropheus duboisi was hilarious in the 80s for this.
As I said unfortunately this one faded to normal.


I rearranged the tank to try to get a pic of odontode blue. I saw him but by then they had kicked up so much stuff my wife couldn't get a pic. He was furry looking when he was against the back glass with the outside light highlighting him. So I will maybe have to eventually consider mounting a cam outside the tank and just film them when the zuchs go in. The problem with a "happy fish" tank is that if it is for fish that hide, you never see the fish.
The HUGE surprise was when I was grabbing one of the larger rocks and my hand got attacked *slap**slap**slap**slap**slap*. Well that feels like a big tail.
Oh, I forgot I put the nugget in here. My he has grown. EZ 9" it looked like for the brief time I saw him/her. Getting to be a beast. It still looks like a nugget so it is not getting to end stage nugget growth yet.

 

My wife managed to get pics of furry boy. He is a blue but the lighting left him looking like a green. Last time it was the thick layer of algae on the glass tank cover. This time? who knows. Normally he is a nice blue color.




I have seen a lot of greens and blues many quite large but they never seem to grow the odontodes. It is possible that through luck of the draw all the big ones have been female but that would be long odds unless there is something I do not know about their M/F import ratio.
Whatever the reason here is a furry blue.
You can even see odontodes on his body in the second pic. He is getting furry.
He doesn't know he will not fit in that pot. The pot is not at the hat point yet though..

I know these aren't rare, but I've been waiting for locally bred long fin bristlenose to turn up for a while. I have finally got a few juvies. One was being photogenic.

Found the back end of my new L106 Orange Seam pleco hanging out of a cave this morning.

 

A pair of brothers I bred and raised. Mom was a LF calico, dad was a standard super red. The short fin is probably twice as big in body as his brother, standards always seem to grow bigger and faster than the LF.
