You dont feed them zucchini anymore? Whats the reason if you don't mind me asking
Oh they have zuchs to eat 24x76. I just don't blanch them anymore.
I was told to always blanch so I did until the LFS filled all their pleco tanks with zuchs from the Asian grocery I recommended.
He didn't blanch them and his nuggets were going crazy for them.
So I tried not blanching them and discovered that my "will not eat anything" nugget just hated the blanched ones but loved raw. My "will not eat anything" phantoms are also crazy for raw when they hated blanched. They also seem to now like the "snail bait" food that I considered a failure as only snails liked it, when trying to make cube food.
So from here on out I run raw zuchs.
I guess the "Always blanch" advice I got long ago isn't right for my plecos.
Now when it comes to broccoli I blanch and it still takes 24-48 hours for my BN to like the flavor. Once they like flavor they eat them in hours. I tried raw and that just added more time before they liked the flavor.
Spinach has always been raw and the BN eat it immediately. Nugget will not touch it in any form. Gibbys eat it immediately (lets face it Gibbys eat everything immediately. 2 days ago they found the datnoid's frozen blood worms and so the datnoids went a little light on food that day).
The adonis eats raw zuchs or spinach.
I throw Massivore in for the cactus. I never see them eat as they only come out when I'm in bed. I hope they like it. I really don't know what they are eating. The tank also has pond snails as they are supposed to like those.
L134s have moved to cheap flake as they like that more than shrimp pellets. Their tank is overrun with black worms they refused to eat.
So far no one will eat frozen raw shrimp (I have seen youtube videos of cactus eating them but mine will not). I could try that on the gibbys I bet they'd eat it (shrimp are a thing and gibbys eat everything).
Worms from the worm bin have also not been a favorite among my protein loving plecos. Not sure why, everyone usually loves worms.
Pumpkins are served raw.

Well as this post has run long in a photo thread I'd better post a photo.

chubby939.jpg
2 chubbies and 4 other plecos (2 are just tails). 2 are starlights who quit being pretty (no more white seams or spots). one is a cactus(tial) and one is s mustardspot (tail). If I pulled it back further I could have gotten 2 cactus in the back (though one of those would also be a tail).
Hmm that might be a cactus blending into the wood above the pot on the right?

Sigh. I feel silly or something like that; when you said chubby i thought it was a nickname

I guess only time will tell if it will turn gold or grey ?
The yellow one actually turned more yellow as I sat down in the car to take it home. I do not count on either of them having a consistent color unless I can find something online on how to keep them pure gold.
At the LFS they were in a black tank.
Both had been in the store for 9-12 months and have changed color over that time. Originally the LFS had 3 pricing tiers brown > mottled > gold based on colors. The plecos responded to that by all changing color.
The only thing I have seen as a way to keep them gold was an aquabid seller who said if you bought from him/her, he/she'd give you the secret.

Here is this weeks pic of the gibbys. That is zuch drifting past in the background. The big one keeps trying to fight with the other and the other keeps not noticing. I credit the quality of their color and body shape with having zuchs available 24x7.

Fluffy boy. He is a blue eyed lemon long fin, that I just realized has a brown marking on one of his snoot bristles. (The fish that is an orange and white blur is a female koi sword trying to photobomb.)

that smaller pleco was in the log that was filled with sand. It got out of there really fast when the big one burrowed in. It looked at the big one's tail for a little bit and decided that wasn't a fight it wanted to have.

Today on "bad at cave"
My wife grabbed the pics.
So cave or hat..
PS: is that a sailfin or a common? I bought sailfins but I think I got commons.

Thanks so much for the info.
Well google images has ones with short fins like mine listed as sailfin too.
The nice pics have a fin taller than that of a rhino.
So I shall have to do spine counting I guess. On counting from a clear pic mine have 13 spines. How many would a common have? My Google Fu is weak so all I'm getting is "over 10".

Looking at Rhino pics it looks like I have always gotten luck with the fin morph sot they look like this
I'll have to be sure that next time I get one to make sure its fin is huge.

Last night's picture of an Eater having driven a dat out of its hiding place.

IMG_20210925_171549.jpg

And in "will a pleco eat it?" instead of throwing a tank's worth of java moss that was overrun by hair algae away, I threw it in with the eaters. The hair is now very well mowed.

I had a better cave but there were worries about the plastic leeching. I hoped they would breed. Not a lot of hope, but a little.

eaters775.jpg
Gibby Cave612.jpg
Then there is the "cave" they ate.

Pleco halloween.jpg
My wife is already looking forward to this years "cave" next month.

I'd also think as "albinos" they would have red/pink eyes.

Man, you get great fins on your common and I get short fins on my Gibbys. Great looking tail too BTW.
Got a pic of the green. I was trying to get a pic of the L-134 going after the green but by the time I got the camera the L-134 had changed its mind about going after a pleco that has to weighs 4x what it does. I think the green is 8-9" so an L-134 has to be in a mood to go after it. I guess it really wanted the log the green is defending.

IMG_20220106_162136.jpg
Pic is all washed out and yellow for some reason. The green should be green on the front and nice yellow all over the tail but has faded after being menaced by the other pleco. It has wonderful color.
I'm still trying to get a pic of the blue boy with the raging odontodes, I have never seen a phantom with odontodes so that was a surprise.

Thanks, if he hadn't just stressed he should look like a slightly faded version of his younger self.

green465.jpg
As I was going to rebuild that tank last night I should do it today. Maybe my wife can get a pic of the blue.
Even at that size that green has no notable odontodes. It might be a girl but would then be a girl defending a cave.
