Hi! I am planning on either adding a rubber lip pleco or bristle nose pleco to my 20 gallon goldfish tank . My tank has a aqua clear 50, sand, river rocks, and some live plants. I will add wood before I get a pleco but which do y'all think is the best choice?

What temperature is your tank at? Bristlenose can tolerate a wider range than rubber lips so if you don't have a stable temp or it is on the colder side those would be your better option. If it stays around a consistent 75 or so you can do the rubber lips. Lower than that then probably bristlenose.

I think a 20g tank may be too small for a goldfish and a place. For goldfish alone the minimum recommended tank size is 20g for the first (fancy, not common which really should be in a pond) and 10g for each additional fancy goldfish.

Both goldfish and plecos are huge waste producers and in my opinion the pleco needs to be thought of as an additional goldfish in this case.

Be wary of slime sucking. I had a bristlenose who would actually kill fish by sucking their slime. I am scared to put them in now. I have an apple snail in with my goldies.
