I am looking for a new type of pleco and am wondering about them. I want experience from people and not just the basics from some great site.

Wow, nice fish! Don't think I can be of any help though, sorry :-[ It always seems a shame to me that the really striking plecs never eat any algae like the regular ones :-X

The first L260 is known as Queen Arebesque and I had 6 babies and lost them due to a power outage. They are kind of delicate at that age. they also stay fairly small.
The last the L333 looks a lot like the Queen Arebesque but have a more off white background where as the Queen has a white background. stays fairly small.
Never owned any of the others even though they are very nice

I've heard good things about the first and third links, never heard or seen the other one's though. I tried to get the queen and the tiger pleco but couldn't find them near me, both those I would go for, don't know about the others

Thanks, I am going to do some running around tomorrow regarding my tanks and I will see if I can get my hands on any of them.

They are beautiful fish! Good luck, hope you get any of them!
If you end up getting the first or second. Could you pls let me know how much you got it for and if it was easy or hard to get hold of? I've been looking for a zebra plec and had my lfs try and get me one but it was something else they came up with. These look as good as the zebra too, if not more beautiful! Maybe itl be easier to get hold of here...

Tom, I had a GibbI Sailfin that I adopted out when I found out they got to be over 1ft long, and then I purchased an Angelicus which gets to be about 4.5" to replace him. But, to my dismay, the angelicus didnt make it... I never saw him eat and eventually I just found him on the bottom :'( .

If you can't find them locally, liveaquaria has the plecos you are looking for. From the looks of it I think they have all 4. Good luck finding your fish.

The only problem is that liveaquaria doesn't ship to Canada. And if it did, the shipping cost would be huge.

They are in local LFS's and I couldn't decide on which one if they have one available.

I really like the Golden Nugget. But, because they are pretty costly around here (about $25 US), I am going to wait until my tank is really seasoned. I would hate to lose it. They are said to get to about 8" as adults.

I know that one of the guys breeds them and doesn't really need to order any in unless it is absolutly needed.

HI Butterfly (Tom, sorry to butt in on your thread). Our LFS had some queen arabesques. Would you recommend them? I presume they get quite big, don't eat that much algae at all and are huuuuge polluters?

They shouldn't time out unless they are something for sale. But here is the link again.

Thanks. It works now. Weird. OK they confirm it's a carnivore, but they don't say how big it'll get, nor whether they're a big waste producer. I wonder.

It says they grow to 90mm(9cm)(.09m)(3.5"). I didn't find anything regarding waste either.

I have had L030 and L260.

I know somebody that breeds L333.

Buying plecs that are locally bred is the best way to go.
You are very lucky to be able to do so.

The vast majority of plecos are imported and by the time they get into shops, are on their last legs.

ALWAYS look at the belly region of plecos before you by them.

If the belly is sunken in, PASS, no matter how nice the fish looks.
It is only a matter of a short time until this fish is dead.

It seems that a lot of these imported fish are not fed from capture until they hit the wholesalers, which could be a time period of a couple of weeks.
By that time, their gut fauna has died off, so even if you see them eat, they are not getting an nutrition from the food, and are slowly starving to death.

All three are nice fish.
L333 is probably the easiest to breed.

So which one would you advise getting? Would it be the L333? Would I be able to hold 2 L333's in my 37 gallon?

A pair of L333 should do fine in that size tank.

Now all I have to do is make sure they are a reasonable price for me.

The store that sells the L333 also have zebra pecos but they want to breed them before they start to sell them. They would sell them for a few hundred.

How big do the L333 get exactly? Some places say 6" some say 5", which is it? I think this would be very important.
