I need help. I have a BN pleco and he’s not moving, like at all. i poke him with my net and he doesn’t move and only wiggles just a microscopic amount. His gills are moving though? I don’t know if he is on the brink of death or if he’s sick? i need help. I currently have him in a 10 gallon tank (which i know is too small im working on getting him a bigger one, he’s only about 3 inches) my water is good, nitrate:0 ammonia:0 ph level is good. I’m not sure what happened. I did about a 75% water change yesterday and put in API Stresscoat. he also has some red markings on his side and tummy. please help I don’t want him to die

UPDATE: He died but now I know what to do in the future thank you for your replies

Was he acting this way before the water change? I have no personal experience with this but from what Ive read on here it could be a burn from water parameters but if you tested it and it looks good, maybe he actually got a burn from the heater? (not sure if that is possible either, but just brainstorming)

How long has he been in that tank?
You may have taken too much water and stolen some media from him.
You have lots of plastic plants I can see from the pic.
Maybe take some of those out and replace with some live plants???

He’s been in there for about a week now. I’ll definitely work on getting some live plants in there. Do you think he will get better if i keep him in there. he’s in there alone right now.

I dunno, he looks very unhappy.
How was he before the water change?
Do you use tap water and chems to neutralize it?
I used tap and chems for the first time on my 55 gal. and made the bala shark and loach very unhappy.
I bought 20 gallons of purified water with minerals in it and exchanged this a.m they immediately perked up and started moving around....maybe try that????

Yes I used a neutralizer. Do you know anything about the red marking?

Hi, it could be from the plastic plants, or a heater burn. How long has this tank been up and running for? Did you cycle the tank before adding him? What are you feeding him? Is there any driftwood in the tank?

I was thinking the plastic plants.
They look sweet but ....its plastic lol, too many of those has always worried me. I used a lot when I first got my 28 gall. tank and after a day or two my albino plecos top fin started too turn red....I took all of them out but 1 and put some live plants in and it has not happened again.
