I don't think there are spotted or long fun clown plecos.

What about bristle-nose Pleco? They can be long finned also, and they grow smaller as albinos, aliray keeps bristle-nose Plecos. Or rubber-nose/bulldog Pleco?

I don't know if I would do a bn in this tank. A bulldog would work though.

I have a rubber lip pleco. He's rapidly growing even though I've had him for two months.

The normal bristle-nose Pleco grows about the same size as a bulldog pleco, I don't see why a bulldog could but not a bristle nose pleco. Actually, Bulldog Plecos grow to be 6 inches long and the bristle nose plecos grow to be somewhere between 4-6 inches

Sorry about that. I confused the pitbull and bulldog pleco. The bulldog or BN might work, but I wouldn't do it. The best bet would be a pitbull or clown pleco.

I think one BN pleco would be fine in a 29 gal . If you want a long finned albino I think Pet Smart carries them for about $4.00 .I prefer them to the clows as mine are out and about during the day , but in fairness I have never kept any other kinds of plecos. Alison

Ok I have to chime in.
A bn would work in a 29, but maybe not with cories as they can be territorial for bottom space.
My albino, Stabbers, is actually quite vicious with other bottom swimmers in his 90 g tank.

Hi all!
I was wondering if there are any plecos (Other than a BN cuz my mom says they are ugly so that's why I'm looking for an alternative) that would work with this stocking:
3 Honey Gouramis
8 White Cloud Mountain Minnows
8 Bronze Corys
1 Pleco
My mom doesn't control this tank, but I would like to please her. It is a 29g with a Fluval 207. It will be kept between 72-75 and is heavily planted.
Thanks!

I wouldn't go with plecos, a school of otocinclus or shrimp would probably be better. Also, many plecos will hide most of the time, and like to eat driftwood more than they do algae.

Plecos are kinda a must cuz this is the last tank I am setting up and the only one with the size to house one. I am not getting one to eat algae or anything. I am just a pleco lover.

well, I have no idea, I've never been a fan of plecos really, and bristlenose are the only ones I hear about being able to be in a small ish tank.

I agree with this completely. I'm planning to put a rubber lip in my 29 gallon. I'll let you know how it goes

Do you think mine would be overstocked with a rubber lip?

No. Not if you keep up on cleaning. My tank has 9 female betas, 4 peppered corydoras and 4 neon tetras (getting two more neons) and will have a pleco. So 21 fish and 4 baby mystery snails. Filter is an aqua clear 50, heavily planted
I'll check those out then. Any other suggestions?

No problem. I hope it helps!
Yeah. I don't care what my mom says I'm getting a BN. Whatever. I'll just hope it's female so she likes it a bit more.

Lol. What made you decide that?

What about a clown pleco, they look pretty, not just plain brown. Or the less common pitbull pleco.

Cuz I don't really like my other options as much cuz either they get bigger or they are more expensive or they have some sort of extra requirement.

I thought that they need wood...
I don't think I have a lot of wood, but here's my build thread so you can be the judge of if I have enough or not. AcornTheBetta's 29g build! | 473592 | Freshwater Aquarium Builds

Yes they do need wood.

I would say that is probably enough wood.

Would the wood be gone/run out over time? If so, how long would this tank?

I don't think so, I've had a BN for 2 years and I haven't had to replace wood, but I do have pretty thick wood. Also I am not 100% sure if that is enough wood, so I would get a second opinion, maybe ask mattgirl I know she is into plecos a lot too.

Some of it depends on the wood. Some wood is soft and disintegrates quicker than other types of wood. I have had one piece of wood in my main tank that has been in there for 5 years and pretty much still looks like it did when I first put it in there. I have a smaller piece in another tank that is a bit smaller now than it was when I put it in there less than a year ago.

I am not sure BN pleco's eat as much wood as some other species of pleco's.

Ok. It's spiderwood is that disintegrate quickly? I don't think BNs eat that much wood too.

You can do a bristelnose just fine in a 29G. In fact, I kept one in one for 3 years, and he did great. He’s currently in a 75g, not because he got too big, just cause I wanted him in there. But yea, if you want a pleco and u have a 29 gallon a bristelnose can work

I'm not very well versed on the different kinds of wood so don't know which ones will last the longest.

they don't need a huge piece so I am sure whatever you have in there will be enough.

Ok. Thanks! Do you know if there is any way to sex them when you get them from the store or is it luck of the draw? DarkOne?

Plecos are hard to sex when they're young. BN plecos can get to 5-6" so it might not be the best choice for a 29g. I have 2 Rubberlips (not Rubber) plecos that stay fairly small at around 4" and under $10 at most Petsmarts. Clown plecos also stay under 4" and about the same price as a Rubberlip. There's others but can be expensive and/or hard to find.

Spiderwood is a hardwood and will last for 5+ years with plecos, probably 10+ years. Malaysian driftwood is soft but will still last 5 years or more. All plecos will feed off the biofilm that grows on the driftwood. There are a few species that will feed on the wood itself but you won't have to worry about it.
