Pleco Baby

So haven’t posted in a while. Tank and fish have been rocking along nicely. Anyway we have a male and female albino pleco and low and behold tonight I see a wee baby on the glass. We haven’t done anything to help them breed so I am somewhat surprised as I thought it was difficult to breed them unless circumstances were perfect.
I guess fish love conquers all

I went and got my phone and it had already disappeared. They do like to hide so I will keep trying. It is particularly hard as our gravel is beige.

Bristlenose pretty much are as bad as guppies when it comes to breeding, they need no extra help beyond a cave (sometimes they don't even need that..) and food.

Ahh well that explains it then.

But to keep the babies alive takes a little more work because most fish will try to eat them (not other plecos unless they are dead, but pretty much every fish will try to eat them).

Fish are unlike humans fish can have sex whenever they want they don’t have to wait till the female is ovulating to get pregnant.

These are egg layers, they spawn, they do not have sex. Only livebearers become pregnant - and the females there if annoyed by the males will turn and murder them if they aren't left alone and keep getting harassed.

Put some veggies (zucchinI or cucumber) in there and as soon as they discover it is food you will see all the itty bitty ones out and feasting on it. Hopefully you will be able to get a good photo of them then.
