Pleco and a convict is a 29?

I have given my fish from my 29 gallon to a friend. I would really like to have an aggressive fish. I am thinking about getting a single convict. Thoughts, suggestions, ideas for other fish? Also, are there any plecos that would fair well in this environment? I always turn to my fish friends at fishlore for quality advise!

I believe a 29 gallon might be a little to small for a convict. You might be able to get away with 3-4 african cichlids. Personally I wouldn't put them in anything smaller then a 55 gallon but I'm sure that they would do ok.
As for plecos, bristlenose plecos stay small that's what I have in my 29g. My african cichlids have never messed with any plecos I have put in with them

Not that I have ever had convicts but I've heard of people with a breading pair in a 20 gallon... now to me that sounds a bit cramped, but based on that I wouldn't think one in a 29 should be a problem. Now adding a pleco to that may be too much bio-load wise, but I'd wait on more knowledgeable opinions for that one

I have no experience with convicts, but I really want one. I am looking forward to having an aggressive fish. They have rubberlip plecos at the lfs. My dad has one and he is a little aggressive himself, especially with territory. Does anyone think that they would tolerate each other with plenty of hiding places? I think that the pleco would be able to hold his own, but again, I have no experience. That's why I'm here!

A convict and a BN plec would be fine in a 29g...a breeding pair is even more fun

I would love to have a pair! I think it would be incredible to watch them raise their fry. I just don't want to have to deal with finding homes for all of them. I see them on craigslist all of the time, so it may be difficult to find anyone to take them. Does anyone have any opinions on the rubberlip? My lps doen't ever have any bristlenose. Never asked either.

I have Cons and have for a while now, I have kept a Pair in a 30 Gallon with proper filtration and also 2 extra Cons because I wanted my Male to pick which female he wanted but then I didn't know it was better to get rid of the others after they paired off but it worked, so The Pair and Bristlenose will work IMO, some would say no but I think if your Cons and Bristlenose start out small then it will work out fine. Just make sure you have proper filtration.

I am just getting one convict. They have some juveniles at the lps. Tomorrow I am going there after class and picking one out! I found a bristlenose on craigslist for $3! I am getting one of those in the morning. He said they were still too young to sex. So, tomorrow I am getting 2 new fish of random sexes.

A Jewel Cichlid would be a good option. I think they look better than convicts.

Jewel cichlids are beautiful! I don't ever see them at the fish stores that I go to though. I would definitely consider one if I could get one.
