Please help! I think my hermit crab is sick. I don't think that he will last long. He is in a separate quarantine right now. He ate and drank some since he was there. I am not sure what happened- today he was all slow and depressed-looking, hardly moving. He has gotten worse. I noticed a dried daffodil flower in his water dish, and was really worried because I think these are deadly if eaten. It must have fallen out of my dried bouquet. He looks very pitiful. If it is poisoning from the daffodil, is there anything that I can do? What else could of happened? Please help.

    Thank you!

I've never tried feeding daffodil, but the main FB group I'm in for them has it on the bad list. I've posted to see if I can get some info for you, but if you have the chance, I'd definitely suggest joining the group yourself. They've been a great and encouraging group (not like a lot of other FB groups). Land Hermit Crab Owners Society

This is their main page, I rely heavily on their food lists here.

Update: Riley (the hermit crab) has retracted his head and apparently gone to sleep for the night. I hope he makes it.

Thank you, everybody, for all of your help. I really appreciate it!

Hopefully he didn't get much of it! From what I was told, not much can be done if it was poison. I would definitely change out the water though.

Yeah, I changed the water right after I saw the daffodil in there- maybe he'll make it. The other crabs seem unaffected. I'll keep you all posted.

Update: Riley made it through the night! He looks very weak still, but is alive. Has good reflexes. :)

Is this surely food poisoning, and can I take him out of QT?

I found some information about the daffodil, and whether it's safe to feed to hermit crabs.
Judging from the resources, I wouldn't advise anyone to feed them to your crabs, they are toxic to cats and dogs, as well as many other animals.
So, that doesn't necessarily mean you killed your crabs by feeding them daffodil, but it very well could have been.

I follow the safe list on the HCA (The Hermit Crab Association) forum page.

Anyways, sorry that I didn't get here sooner, was on vacation and couldn't even access this page, felt bad!
Sorry about your poor crabby, it's hard losing one of them.
If you have any questions or topics relating to hermit crab nutrition, then please let me know.
