Please help, I don’t know what's wrong with my Black Moor. Any Advice Appreciated

Hi, I was looking for any advice and help on my black moor goldfish.

I’ve had him for about 3 months and he's been happy as a camper. But I just changed him to a bigger tank 3ft - 150L from a 2ft. He lives with a ranchu who was bought at the same time and they get along well (always swimming together - not fighting over food). There is also a small mystery snail in the tank but he usually hides or climbs the walls, there were two snails but when I changed the tank the other sadly passed. When I changed over tanks I used 50% of the water from the old tank and basically did a 50% water change into the new tank. Before this, I thoroughly rinsed and cleaned the gravel and cleaned the tank with vinegar.

In the new tank, they have had the addition of a blue light instead of purple, a long aerator rock, and the fluorescent ornament in the middle. My Black moor looks to have some white spots but to me, it doesn’t look like ick, it almost looks as if his scales are falling off (not turning orange), he also looks to have a little damage to his back fin.

The ranchu seems to be fine. I’m not too sure of the water parameters as I don’t have any tests but thinking that it might be a water problem I did a 50% water change night last night and this morning he looks worse. He seems to be losing more colour and sticks to the bottom of the tank.

Someone, please help me? Do I need to treat him? I don’t have a way to separate him from the tank as of yet but I am going to buy a bucket or something so I can.

Here is a video link of him eating breakfast:

This is their tank:

Do you think he might have scraped himself on the Lava rock, it can be quite abrasive. Clean water and perhaps some Melifix... and welcome to Fishlore!

I suppose he could be, it was quite close to the wall and I have now moved it away so he can properly swim around it. They did have the lava rock in the 2ft tank so I don't understand why in a bigger tank he would be rubbing against it?

Thank you I will definitely try some Melifix. Will this affect my other goldfish at all?

It shouldn't.

I agree, he looks and acts well. I think he is scraping himself on something. I’m not a big Melafix fan but if you have some it may help healing. I would take the rock out. Keep the water super clean. You need to clean and do at least a 50% water change each week. I do 75% with my goldies.

Thanks heaps will definitely take the rock out and see if he improves. Does anyone know why he would be scraping along the rock all of a sudden? Maybe stress?

Yes I used the same filter from the previous tank they were in.

Do you think it would be beneficial to take all the ornaments out except for the plants to see if he improves?
