Please help! Ebenhard is under the weather!

GuineaPigster

A couple weeks ago, when my 2 year old male budgie was out of the cage, I walked in the room and he was just sitting there. Even though he perked up, my mom-sense kicked in and I knew something was wrong. He was still eating, playing, talking, preening but he was just sitting on the perch, eyes closed a lot. After this had happened for a few days, I got my home-vet to come. She said he looked good, but that he got stressed too easily, which is a sign of heart disease. He also has a lump on the right side, above his leg.
I scheduled an appointment with a specialist at a hospital. Then, yesterday, he wasn't playing with his toys. Same thing today. Right now he is out of the cage and only peeing, with a bit of urate, not pooping. I'm going to take him in via emergency, but I'd really appreciate advice. I've already lost a bird, a guinea pig, and a dog this year and I don't want to lose another.
Thanks!

He has pooped normally and has been playing. I have a feeling all of this is related to the lump. I hope it is treatable. I'm taking him to the vet at 2:00.

Please reply!!!

I'm sorry he's feeling poorly. I wish I could help. I don't know anything about birds except that I like them. My aunt and uncle have a budgie that is so friendly and has such a big personality. I know that birds are special pets. I hope the vet has a favorable diagnosis for you and him. good luck!

I'm sorry your budgie's feeling sick. Hope he get's better soon! Hopefully your vet knows what's wrong with him.

I hope you don't lose another bird. I hope he gets better.

Thanks!!!
I'm going soon!
He is pooping normally and was playing a few minutes ago.
I have high hopes that it is nothing serious!

So we took him to the vet, and the tumor is fine. It is just a skin one, so it's not an organ one!!
The other news, we're waiting for. They took some blood and we will get the results by tomorrow.
Hoping that the results are good!.........
BTW (To examine his vent, they wet him and now the poor guy is frantically preening!)

I would love to see a picture of him if you can manage it.

GuineaPigster

Yep...Here he is...in the shower!

Everyone may also be interested in knowing that last week they performed internal surgery on a 6ft Koi!!!!

GuineaPigster

Good news!!!
The blood test came back negative for everything they tested for. So now, we will just sit back and observe!!!
He went through two homes before here (His permanent forever home) and so we're wondering if it could possibly be emotional, because right now we're moving and packing. Thanks so much you guys!

I had a Cockatiel that had tumors - The vet performed surgery and he lived for another 2 years. The poor thing had to wear a cone on his head for a while which he didn't like very much but learned to rest his head on a toy to sleep. My bird though at the time was much more serious (internal tumors also)than yours and glad yours is doing well.
A bit of info incase you don't know but make sure to not use any candles, non stick pans, scented plugins. All these things can kill a bird very fast. If you take the bird in your car make sure there are no car air-fresheners in car either. Glad your bird is doing better.

I was never allowed to have birds, my mom calls them "rats with wings" (I was never allowed to have rats, either.) But I love the wild birds at the farm so much that I drove 45 minutes in a white out snowstorm to get an injured wren to a vet that worked in wildlife rehabilitation. Poor little thing ran into the big glass French doors. So many of them die that way, so I wasn't about to let that one die too!

That's exactly what I would do! You are so right- too many birds die that way! We put little decals on our windows and have inspired family to do the same.

That's a happy story for your tiel! Bird surgery is so risky, but I'm glad yours went well.
Thanks for the bit of knowledge! I do know it, but I'm glad you shared anyway!

I'm glad to hear you already new that info. So many birds have died from owners not knowing that scents like that are deadly, I'm sure not intentionally though.
How's your bird feeling? Hope he/she is feeling better.

So glad your budgie is ok.

My mom had one years ago that was a real "stinker" named jojo. He was "semi-tame" and loved to fly around the house and scream bloody murder the whole time "CHEE CHEE CHEE CHEE". He used to be quite difficult to get back in his cage. I never had the heart to trim his flight feathers to make him easy to catch...
